Beckmen's Jar Jar Binks Scale

It seems you either love him or hate him. Jar Jar was exiled from Otoh Gunga, and had his intellectual capacity questioned even by the saintly Qui Gon Jinn. And yet, Anakin Skywalker, the Queen of Naboo, Frank Oz, and many others found him worthy of respect.

Star Wars message board user Beckmen devised a helpful scale in this thread to help you see where you stand with the Orange Frog.

1: HATED HIM, he RUINED THE WHOLE MOVIE!!!

2: WHY IS HE THERE??? It's a good movie, but he is just SOOO BAD

3 (I am a 3): I did NOT like him, but after seeing the movie a few times, I can ALMOST put up with his antics

4: I didn't like him at all, but I guess he tolerable

5: He's okay, I could go both ways

6: He's okay, I don't like him, but I don't see what all the fuss is about

7: He's funny in a few parts. Interesting and cool character.

8: I thought he was pretty funny, I laughed out loud several times. A worthy addition to the SW Universe!

9: I was laughing non-stop at him!!! GL is a genuis and so is Ahmed Best!!!

10: My Favorite SW character. VERY funny stuff!!!!!!! Meesa liken dis Jar-Jar!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!

date Posted: Mar 27, 2007 11:05 AM I'd give him an 8. Never understood all the hatred for him Definitely worthy of being a Star Wars character, in my opinion. I like him because he is so different from every other character, I found him amusing and the design of the Gungans is very cool, hopfully we'll see more of them in the T.V. series, in a good way of course.

date Posted: Mar 27, 2007 3:49 PM If we see them in the TV series, I fear the Dark Side of Star Wars marketing will prevail. Did you see the trailers for Lucasfilm's Battlefront game? It was all about shooting Ewoks and Gungans. Marketing generally follows internet trends.

date Posted: Mar 27, 2007 4:43 PM Considering that Lucas is directly involved with the two T.V. series I would hope that wouldn't happen. He hasn't caved into the negativity of the "internet fan's" and hopefully he won't. He did Episode's I, II&III his way (Thank the Gods!) I hope he continues to be his own man, and not cater to the demand of the few.

It's easy to get pessimistic about fandom and the marketing people, but you're right, Lucas has a closer hand in this than something like a LucasArts game.

If he catered to these "fans" he would have killed off Jar Jar in ROTS, like some were hoping for. I'm glad he didn't. I hope that when a DVD Saga Box Set finally comes out he will add Jar Jar's extra scenes, maybe not in the films but as a bonus. As well as some featurette/documentary exploring his development and character, too finally adding him into the Saga, he deserves at least that.
