Not many people like Star Wars anymore...
Ok, yes, I did use that Shaak picture for the... third time in a row...

Ok, but to the point...

It's struck me that not many people like Star Wars anymore. Like, I was at my baseball practice a few days ago, and one of my team mates asked me if I liked Poke'mon. (Or something along those lines...) I answered no. He asked me what I did like. I said that I liked Star Wars. He just starred. And once I was walking in Target, and I was wearing my Darth Vader shirt, and one kid looked at it, and just rolled his eyes and walked off.

But the thing is... how come it isn't so popular anymore?? I mean, it's Star Wars!

And also, some Star Wars fans think it is strange that I like Shaak so much. Like, once I was talking to one of my friends and he asked who my favorite character was. I said Shaak Ti. He said, "Ooh, Shaak Ti. I think I remember that person... Wait a second, Shaak is a girl! You like a GIRL character!" So what! I happen to like the character, why does it matter? I mean, a girl asked why I like Shaak before, and said she's a girl, yet her favorite character is Anakin. I just think it is kinda weird what some fans are turning into. And then the people who hate Star Wars all together.

But WHY is it so unpopular now??

Fads seem to come and go. Everyone seems really in to Harry Potter right now. Not that I don't love Potter a lot. Still, whatever happened to faithfulness? Star Wars was my first fandom. I'll stick with it no matter what.

I've been fairly lucky in that there are quite a few Star Wars fans here at my college. I am on a hall that is full of fans of things like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and others. Most other people think we are really wierd. I say normal is overrated. Who'd want to live without Star Wars.

Maybe GL's attempts to make Star Wars more Kid friendly (Jar Jar etc.) has backfired and a lot of kids felt patronized. so they turned to LoTR and HP instead.

People suck, that's why. From my experience, the excitement of Episode III carried over into 2006. I never felt that with Episodes I and II, so I still feel it's exciting.

Don't listen to those kids. Like what you like.

Oh and Pokemon and U-Gi O suck. I ring up enough of that crap at my register everyday at Target.

I think "Star Wars" IS popular. Look at the ticket sales for "Revenge of the Sith" and the sales for the Original Trilogy box set.

I'm not sure how old these people are that you're talking about, but sometimes kids (and even some adults) just don't like it when you're not in to what THEIR into and they make you feel like it isn't cool or popular.

Star Wars is well good, those people that don't like it are freaks. And as for the whole Shaak Ti thing, my brothers favourite character is Aayla Secura, and there's nothing wrong with him...(nothing official anyway...)

I'm sorry, someone asked you if you like Poke'mon and your NOT the cool one for liking SW?

Everyone likes something and its unfortunate that people think their opinion matters that much. Who cares if your friend doesn't like SW. You can still be friends. He of course would be alot cooler if he like SW.

Star Wars is popular, and millions like it. However, it is looked upon as a geeky pastime, so not very many people admit it.

Ble leader46 is right, it's like that in gothenburg, swedish people are very afraid to get stampled as a geek, and to say that you love star wars well, then you're a geek, I think I'm the only one in this d@mn city whos proud of being a geek...

I think from a kids point of view, you would probably hear negative things about SW, because it is competing with Harry Potter and LOTR. That being said...From an adult point of view, my co-worker's love SW. I have my action figures lined up around my desk, which makes for great conversation. And every once in a while I get asked to bring in my FX lightsabers...And then we play and duel. What fun. So Star Wars is NOT dead and IS very popular.

I think in the older generations some people think SW is just for kids, or some people decide not to even give it a try because they think it's too mainstream. But they don't know what they're missing because these stories, though they look new, are actually ancient.

And if you like Shaak Ti, be proud of liking Shaak Ti. She's a amazing character, and you've got all kinds of people here to back you up.

LIke most have already said...Star Wars IS popular, but some don't like to admit it. I also like LOTR and Harry Potter, but SW is my all-time favorite. I even have a 10 year-old cousin who is becoming a fan (it doesn't help that I bought him a ton of SW things for Christmas and his b-day). I even work with people who are fans. There is now a traveling exhibit titled: "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination," and it is set to run over the next 2 years (at least), and I plan to go to the COSI stop this summer.

Be proud of your fandom...I know I am:p

I tell you, I'm persecuted at my school for liking Star Wars. I have a SW belt buckle which I proudly wear. So when people see it they start saying or asking things. "How come you like SW--it's for little kids!" they say. Or, "Hey, look at that SW ###!" Other times, these idiots say that SW is stupid. When playing sports, and I make a mistake, they say, "Use the Force, ###!" I've almost gotten to the point of wanting to hide my SW liking. But on the other hand, I think that I should be myself, not what others think or want me to be. Just as SW seems good for making enemies, so it is with friends. Many girls have walked up to me and said, "I like your belt. SW is so cool!" Several of them are hot.:_|

Yesterday, I was talking to my mom about getting another FX lightsaber before the $99 sale ends. And I asked myself out loud why they are clearance priced and she responded "Well, it's because SW is old news and they can't sell it if no one wants it."

Ouch :(

Neither have I.

Try responding to it like this in a sarcastic tone: "Oh, I'm sure PG-13 movies are okay for little kids."

Many people thought that Darth-Vader-with-flames bumper sticker I got with my Hyperspace membership kit was pretty cool.

Who cares who likes or doesn't like Star Wars? As long as you like it, enjoy it. Personally, I love SW and I think I always will...it has been such a part of my life, since I first saw it at the cinerama dome in Hollywood in 1977. I'll never forget how the whole theater shook during the opening scene when the Tantive IV was being attacked and a lot of people actually ran out of the theater thinking it was an earthquake! For me, it's been one heck of a ride and I can't wait to see all the exciting new SW stuff that keeps coming...especially the books!

One more thing: I used to get made fun of when I first saw it back in '97 for my infatuation with the series when I moved to my hometown. I don't care. Why should I change my love of "Star Wars" just because of a few bullies?

The people who think SW is for kiddies probably haven't put the horrors of Star Wars into thought.

These include:
(1) Lots of people get killed
(2) There are explosions that people get killed in
(3) People lose a body part or two (this applies to robots also), and hey, there was one case of bleeding
(4) There are scary people, places, and things
(5) People get eaten by monsters from time to time
(6) Dark Themes
(7) A few other nasty sights.

I have noticed the same thing. People are not into it as much as before. People say they like Star Wars, but they are mostly wanna be's. I asked a kid who said he loved Star WARS if he knew a line, and he said the most generic thing you could here from a wanna be, "I am your Father." I love the line, but it has downgraded us fans into puke. Maybe not that far.

But my most favorite thing to do is express my love and faith around punks. It makes them real mad and then you get your chance to defend what youu love most.

My last rant will be about Jar Jar/Ewok haters. Hating Jar Jar is so 1999 and try pointing out what is so bad about him.

I have to admit that there are still hordes of fans, its just not main stream with the general populace b/c the movie hype has calmed down. It is also my opinion that the PT could have been better, but I still like the OT and the EU. great ideas for the universe came from the PT, but I didn't feel that the films were up to par.

what other movie made IN THE 70's, 80's 90's 00's still has a following like Star Wars. NOTHING!!!!!! I think Harry Potter and other films nowadays will have a following , yes but they will never match the power (of the force) of Star Wars or will have the staying power.

And then, of course, there is the fact that the "circle is now complete".

Lucas has made it clear that there will be no more movies, so there is no sense of SW expectancy from a movie standpoint anymore. At least, until more detailed, OFFICIAL buzz begins to build regarding the TV projects...

Of course, he said the same thing when he finished making Return of the Jedi, but there was a kind of glaring logic to it. After all, you can't have an Episode IV, V and VI without a I, II and III, can you? :)

Oh...and don't worry. I dig Shaak-Ti, too. :)
