Best Job Ever! Part 2
Come to find out, the mother of the bride was a seamstress, so she had helped with the design of many of the costumes. As people arrived, there were many that had managed to dress up in some sort of fashion. There were Tusken Raiders, children dressed as Jawas, many people in Jedi Robes, and there were even two Queen Amidala's (one was the mother of the bride). This was shortly after the release of Phantom Menace, so the hype had really brought out a lot of new costumes. I remember there even being a Darth Maul, and his makeup was fantastic!

When it was time for the ceremony, they had me start by playing the opening title music to get everyone seated and "in the mood." It was the processional music that had everyone in stitches: For the bridal party, starting with the ring-bearer and flower girl (C-3PO and R2-D2: store-bought kids costumes over very NICE outfits), they had me play the Cantina Band music. Everyone came joyfully down the aisle and took their places up front.

"Han" walked in escorted by the stormtroopers, prisoner-style and then they stood by the front. The celebrant/pastor walked in dressed as the old Obi-Wan and then the music began. The Wedding March was the only non-Star Wars music used during the wedding, but even then, it wasn't the traditional Wedding March. This was the Wedding March from Flash Gordon, performed by Queen! :^O

"Leia" was a sight to behold as she was escorted down the aisle by her father, a 5'4" Darth Vader. Aside from his size, I was really impressed with the costume that the mother of the bride had made. I was trying to discern as to whether some of the gasps were about him instead of for the bride.

The ceremony was very simple and lasted just under 20 minutes. The new couple left the ceremony with their bridal party in tow to the Throne Room music. They were out of the room for about an hour or so for pictures, so I had time to walk around the room and check it out.

The cake was a standard cake, but instead of the usual figurines, they had used Star Wars figures. Predictably, Han and Leia figures were on the top, and then there were stormtroopers on one side and figures representing the women of the bridal party as closely as possible. A groomsmen's cake had the face of Chewbacca on it and the Star Wars logo was on the top anniversary cake.

Decoration-wise, Star Wars was taken to the Nth degree. It was almost overwhelming. All of the bridal gifts were in Star Wars wrapping paper. I learned later that about a third of the gifts were themed in some way or another.

When it was time for the Bridal Party to return, they came back with the Throne Room music, but with one small twist. All of the people who had dressed as Jedi had brought lightsabers, and they created a lightsaber arch as the party entered. Dinner and toasts were pretty traditional, and the first dance was even a non-Star Wars song. However, the bridal party dance was the disco version of the Star Wars theme, and everyone got in on the act for that!

To me, it couldn't have been a better wedding. It's THE JOB that always remains clearest in my memory, and since I wasn't able to have something like it for myself, I was happy that I could help someone else enjoy the experience.
