More than any other time in my life, I believe that I can truly identify with how the members of the Rebel Alliance felt.

What I am referring to is the battle to overthrow the tyranny of our current Income Tax system, so that it can be replaced with something that returns freedom and power to the common people of this country: the FairTax plan.

For the first time in a very long time, it appears as though the goal may be attainable, which is the same kind of hope that the Rebels experienced, poised on Endor to attempt the destruction of the Death Star; and it is here that I reach an extremely powerful corollary between the real world and Star Wars.

When the first Death Star was completed, it was touted as the ultimate power in the universe. Tarkin was quoted as saying that, "Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station." In the real world, if you mention a word like the IRS to most people, what is their first impression? Most people envision audits, waiting in long lines on April 15th for help to file their taxes, losing their homes, etc. It is synonymous with fear; and so, it is with no great stretch that I am comparing the Income Tax to the Death Star. In fact, with April 15th quickly approaching, I'm sure many people are probably feeling something fairly close what the Alderaanians felt when the Death Star appeared just outside its orbit.

So what is the FairTax plan? That's a fair question.

Many people are confused and highly misinformed about it, and even think that it would be something ON TOP of what they already pay. Simply put, the FairTax "is a nonpartisan national grassroots campaign to replace the federal income tax system with a progressive national retail sales tax. It provides a "prebate" to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement and, through companion legislation, repeal of the 16th Amendment."

I must say to you right now that you would be best served to read everything you possibly can about it, because from everything I've learned, it can only serve to benefit EVERYONE in this country.

Want some really awesome examples how? Here are just a few:

- You will NEVER again have to file an Income Tax return.

- You will NEVER again have any Federal or Social Security taxes withheld from your paycheck - meaning you will now receive a FULL PAYCHECK every pay period.

- You will NEVER have to fear an IRS audit - no Income Tax, no need for an IRS.

- EVERYONE, regardless if income level and according to the size of their family, will receive a check each month covering the cost of every day items they need to live (i.e. groceries, etc.).

    This means that after this prebate:
     - Taxes are ENDED for those up to Poverty Level.
     - Taxes are dramatically decreased for Lower to Middle income levels.

- Many jobs will cease to be outsourced outside the U.S. as corporations return to a country where they are no longer penalized for earning money.

- Time and money will no longer have to be spent by individuals or corporations in order to determine the tax implications of doing business.

- Tax savings realized by businesses will be passed on to the consumer in reduced prices for products.

- Explosion of new jobs available in the U.S.

- EVERYONE, including foreign visitors to this country, now pays taxes. Income Tax evasion is completely eliminated.

- Homeowners can now pay their ENTIRE house payment with pretax dollars, which is a huge improvement over the current home interest deduction (think of it - NO Income Tax, means no need to take deductions).

- No need to increase taxes to cover the exponential increasing burden caused by social government programs like Medicare, Social Security and the new Prescription Drug Plan.

Of course, I can ramble on, but the information is out there for you to read for yourself. Make sure to do yourself and your family a favor and really learn what the FairTax plan would do for you, because just like with the Death Star, I will join in the celebration on that very special day when the Income Tax and the IRS are destroyed (figuratively of course), and replaced by the New Republic, otherwise known as the FairTax.
