 | The Meaning of Life. |
Well first off I would like to yell out, yeehah. Why you say? Well, I finally saw the ROTS. It was great to see it in it's entirety again. In fact I got the idea for this blog while watching ROTS.
During the Utapau battle scene; I saw something. I saw a clone helping another and asking for medical aide. This brought to mind a debate I have heard many times, and I would like to share it with you in a question and answer form.
The first question is; are clones really human?
This is a subject that has long been discussed. In my opinion, clones of any type of being are still part of that species. But then the argument of what if they are altered to obey all commands without question and are mass produced. Does this still make them human. Of course it does, they still have emotions, and they still have their needs. People still argue that clones produced on a large scale are an expendable resource and don't need human rights. Thats true, but only if you control their minds. However, a free thinking ,human, mind will attemt to gain freedom, and recodnition of it's humanity.
Well, I leave you discuss the humanity of ,human, clones. I however, am moving on to the subject of droids.
When you ask a person, what qualifies something to be human? Most will reply, a soul. But then you ask, if having intelligence counts as being human? Even I would say no. But what happens if you create a program designed to mimmick the soul. Would you qualify it as human? Disturbingly the majority answer is no. So, what makes a soul a soul. I would say that the ability to communicate with a deity, to beleive it in you're mind. So if one creates a programming to mimmick this, it should qualify as a soul. Then they say, if it's synthetic it can't love, feel, or communicate with a deity. So the debate remains, what makes something human, or life. Can AI count as life. After all, it posesses all the traits that make sentient life. AI can speak, reason, and think on it's own. Even act on it's own thoughts and ideas. Some reason; that since it is artificial, it does not count as life. But we can be seen as artificial, we after all have all the same problems. We need to keep power up, and need to maintain our body's.
So, do droids, or clones, count as life or human? I think so, but still, does having all the traits of life and a soul, mean that you have one. This may be a question that echos throughout the ages.
