Fiction Schedule - replies to comments
I've copied some of your comments below, and offered my replies....

I notice that Shadows of Mindor is now set for an October 08 release (from Feb). Will there be a replacement Feb 08 novel?

The Force Unleashed novel is sort of a replacement - it was the addition of this title that spurred the rescheduling.

Any news on e-books?

Nothing that I can really announce at this point, although we are considering one or two for this year, probably loosely tied to LofF.

Please forgive me, Sue, but I'm extremely disappointed by the Plagueis novel being cancelled. I actually really WANTED to know Palpatine's and Plagueis' back story. Could you please elaborate on what led to this decision? How was it decided that it wasn't a good time? Who said what when? Can you do that for me, please? I'd appreciate the insight.

You're forgiven. After many long and difficult group discussions, we decided that the mystery was worth keeping. We didn't want to personalize Plagueis and Palpatine to the point where they because mundane - we figured the better option at this point was to leave their back stories mysterious. We have no plans at the moment to move forward with this.

Oh, and I've been loving the detailed LOTF timelines. Could you please keep those going as well? I'd appreciate that, too. Thanks for your time.

I'd really like to, and I've intended to all along. The problem is time. It's at the bottom of my list (right below blogging!) and getting a block of time set aside to go through the manuscripts again eludes me. I haven't given up yet, though.

Is there anything you can share about the Untitled hardcover novel at this point? Such as potential era in the saga? Or is it still to early in the process to know even that?

No, nothing really. Shelly and I are reading a few authors we have in mind, and once we settle on someone and that person agrees, then we brainstorm with the author to see what he or she is passionate about.

B-)

As excited I was about the Plagueis book, I agree that it's best to keep it mysterious. Explaining it all would definitely change the atmosphere of the films.

I am excited for Shadows of Mindor however. And - Any potential novels about Obi Wan between E3 and 4 per chance?

Like that old Knight dude said in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: "You chose wisely...":D

Nothing much to explore there. He just basically sits in his hut, paranoid that the Empire will find Luke. And he numbs the pain of his exile with alcohol.;)

Ooo! That sounds great. B-) Keep running with that idea! ;)

Something with Jaina would really make my day. :D Thematically I can understand why her characterization development has taken a back seat to Jacen's so far in the series (not becoming a Sith doesn't take as many pages as turning into one :p ). Still, she can be a great action heroine with a great wit, and it would be a lot of fun to see a side story featuring her.

More Jag is always appreciated too. ;) Especially with Jaina. :x

Regardless, though, more LOTF stories = awesome. Even just the possibility of it made me smile. :)

Thanks for explaining the decision to cancel the Plagueis novel. Mystery trumps history anytime, so good call.

Thanks for the additional comments! I've felt from the beginning that the story of Plagueis and Sidious was best left a mystery, so I very much appreciate the decision not to proceed with that novel.

I can understand your wanting to keep them mysterious and not mundane. If, at a later date you decide to go ahead with their background stories, may I suggest a possible way to keep some of the mystery and not make them mundane: have it written from the point of view of Palpatine in the first person. Sort of a personal diary of sorts, only the diary doesn't reveal everything. (continued)

Think of it as sort of a Sith apprentice's introduction into the life and teachings of Darth Sidious. Since we know from Dark Empire that Palpatine compiled works on the dark side, it seems logical that he would impart teachings from his life as well. And, since it's written for a Sith apprentice, Palpatine would definitely not reveal everything - just the basics. Some food for thought, anyway.

Besides, how can you know that Palpatine would be telling the whole truth anyway? He could just be telling it from his "certain point of view" even to the point of mixing truth with lies, as the Sith normally do anyway when trying to mislead and/or seduce Jedi.:D

That sounds promising. The more eBooks the better.

Thanks anyway :)

:O Wow, I didnt know the authors were given that much freedom. That's pretty awesome!

Does that apply to just the novel or all EU material? I'm just thinking that short stories or e-books of some kind would be a cool way for us junkies to get our fix without spoiling the mystery much.

Well, I was really looking forward to the Plageuis novel, but I think that, in the long run, you're right. Perhaps some things are better left a secret.
