Well, well...it seems my HyperSpace subscription is nearing its demise. I keep thinking about handing over those 15 Galactic credits however one, vain thought stays the submit button.
Contribution.
My acts are not Death Star in magnitude nor have they assisted in a major way to a charitable cause. At times the blogs read here have not been kind in words. So why do I feel slighted by the Lucas powers that be?
I provided Lucas with major publicity when I was the Star Wars Mom on FOX's reality TV show "Trading Spouses." Toys, books, games, clothes, all were quite visible on the show. Permission was needed by the production company for these to be filmed. Trust me, the way the show evolved, Star Wars was not needed, it was just a nice addition. I do wonder what the monetary kickback was for all the publicity however I was not privy to that information nor was I a recipient..
Lucas agreed to allow the use of Star Wars products with the provision all things Star Wars must be seen in a good light. Toys were to be in unaltered condition, my local Star Wars club was to be portrayed as family friendly and fun, (Which it is anyway) all references were to be positive.
What that meant to the writers was the nutty, offbeat Star Wars Mom had to be rewritten. I was not pleased with the final outcome. I went from happy, creative, offbeat Mom involved in family and Star Wars to deadbeat, gaming addicted, family neglected Mom. A far cry from my reality.
In the end, Lucas won with exposure on a Worldwide TV show. (It is currently airing in China) I battled (and continue to battle) misconceptions. Lost opportunities for any future involvement with Lucas and Sony Online Entertainment will never be regained.
I still adore my local Star Wars club. They are friends first, Star Wars fans second. They know me and were not swayed by the TV show. Many members contributed to the production of Trading Spouses. No compensation was offered...not even a HyperSpace subscription. I thank you all again for your time and assistance. You were all stars.
Now HyperSpace wants 15.00 from me to continue my subscription. Not today but I will gladly accept a complimentary subscription tomorrow and while you are at it, shoot a few to HothLantaRebels for their efforts.
May the Force be with you all...until it becomes harassing emails, character misjudgment and a very large Sarlac pit to climb out of, then just ...
