The Piper
Hamelin (German: Hameln) is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany.

A glass window placed in the church tells the story of a disaster in the town that occurred 1284. A. D.

A mysterious wanderer agreeed to rid the town of Hamelin of a plague of rats. He enchanted the rats by playing a magical flute and then led them into the nearby river Weser, where they drown.

When the city fathers went back on their promise to pay him for his work,
the piper exacted revenge by playing his flute for the town's children and leading them away into a mountain cavern, where they disappeared forever.

It is an intriguing story , but what really did happen? How did they dissappear into a mountain? Was this flute some thing like a dog whistle?

Wild theories abound ....some say it was a strange epidemic causing people to shake their limbs and dance, or that the story refersto the Children's Crusade

But the current view is that the Pied Piper of Hamelin was a recruitment sergeant, for the colonization of eastern Europe which took part in the 13th century and that he led away a big part of the young generation of Hamelin to a region in Eastern Germany.

I think he may have been an extraterrestrial but then again this is a case for Mulder ...
