 | Mustafar in San Diego continues... |
First of all, a big THANK YOU to all of you that have contacted me out of concern. I really appreciated that. Thought I'd let you all know what's happening today....
As I said in yesterday's blog here, last night the Red Cross put a note on my door of where we are to go in case we receive the dreaded "reverse 911 call" which is a mandatory evacuation notice from authorities. As of now, I have not received the call but last night my 13 yr old nephew and his family did. They live I'd say 8 miles from me.
The fire that is threatening my area the most is the Fallbrook fire which is north east from me. Oceanside is directly west of Fallbrook and the winds are blowing westward. Between Fallbrook and Oceanside is a river bed... The San Luis Rey river bed. The fear is that the fire will travel via the river bed with help from those westerly winds. My nephew's house is near the river bed, thus their evacuation notice.
The schools are closed again today so I've brought my boys to work with me. They're in the conference room watching movies. They're holding up well and I feel they now have a good understanding of what's going on. We had a good talk last night about the fires and I answered all their questions and laid their concerns to rest. I explained that if we have to go, we'll be taking all of our sentimental items like their baseball trophies, photo albums etc., and yes, Allan's skateboard. LOL
Anyway, when we left the house this morning we could not believe our eyes. The sky was this strange eerie color... it was almost like you were wearing yellow tinted sunglasses. You could not see the sky and the sun was blood red. Ashes are falling like rain and driving to work I noticed them blowing on the ground in little circular motions.... Eerie I tell you.
So here I am, trying to keep my mind focused on work but having a hard time....
Can you blame me?
Again, thanks for all the love and support. All your emails, comments, and messages mean so much to me...
Lots a love
Shell

One of my co-workers was looking at a slide show online and the fires look scary on a computer screen.... I can't imagine being there and being so close to it that the ash is falling from the sky and the sun is muted out.
I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Glad your boys are resting easier - or at least, their fears have been eased with your talk last night. It must be hard for them too.
Good luck.... keep us posted.

Yeah the whole thing really sucks. I spent some time out in the Sierra's a while back, fires are always an issue. Although I have never experienced what you and your family are going through now. I remember a tour I took in Glacier national park - the ranger talked at length of all the drawbacks of fighting wild fires in the park. In the end he explained the conclusion that they must be fought because you never know what the winds will do. On the positive side of things those firefighters are doing an amazing job of keeping people safe, all things considered.

I'm praying they can contain the fires by tomorrow like I heard on the radio (at least that 's what I think I heard). Keep the faith baby...you'll all be okay. (((hugs))
Remember, I'm just a phone call away.

I don't think they've evacuated O'side yet, have they?
It's been like another planet down here. The skies are still blue and the air is supposedly more breathable than in most of the county, though it still smells like a campfire and there's a thin layer of ash on everything outside.

Comanderbly, the firemen are doing an amazing job even though the best containment is only 10%! The winds make it nearly impossible!!!

Hi,
I was just curious how close the fire is to the downtown area of San Diego. Such as the Comic Con Convention center.
Good Luck to you.

Sending more (((HUGS))) your way. Here are (((SOME MORE))) for your boys.
Nope, I don't blame you at all for not being able to focus at work. It's a good thing your mind is elsewhere-- the things you should be thinking about are the important ones, like your family and your plan for this scary situation, just in case.
The most important thing is that you stay SAFE. Love & prayers, Shell.

I knew you're smoking hot, but this is getting a bit too literal...
Anyway, stay safe. The fact that your body is about 90% liquid won't help you, I'm afraid. Just stay up-to-date with the progress of the fires.
You're in my thoughts, still.

Hey Hanna, its not downtown. No worries there. Its mainly East County and the Rancho Bernardo area, which is halfway between downtown and me up here in north county. No worries for the convention ctr deary, plenty more comic cons ahead.
Oh Jade, so sorry about your cousin. Hope they get to go home soon. Thanks for you concern sweetheart.
JP, your MANY MANY prayers and love and done so much to help me through this. Love you girly.

Thanks for checking up on me.
Hey!
Been thinking of you all day (it's 2:30 here) and have been checking back for updates to this or a new blog letting us know how you are.
Glad to hear things are looking up for you. I hear the wind shifted causing more threat but that the NWS is saying the Santa Ana winds should be subsiding by tomorrow.
My room mate and I were actually discussing the Chargers game last night.... any word on it being canceled?
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hope thing keep looking up and that the sky is blue all around very, very soon....

Since Qualcomm Stadium is now one big HUGE evacuation center, they said the Chargers will be playing in Arizona on the news last night, but today I heard they're going to play in Dallas???? Makes no sense but whatev, as long as they play!

D'oh! My bad.... I've been following it on the internet and had just read an article that the Qualcomm Stadium was housing many people but that it was very organized and running well just before I wrote that.
What can I say.... I am, after all, blonde.
Glad the team can get the game in elsewhere.

Prayers out to you and your family.

Uhm, no, I think I take top trophy for being late here.
Shelly, honey, I wish you would had emailed me this link at work so that I could have stayed up on you and Stoogey too...I owe both of you an apology for not checking up on you. I've been so self absorbed in my own misery. Please forgive me, hon.
On a happy note, I'm glad you and your family are safe and the fires did not reach you. Next time, email me.
