Today a dream finally came true for me. As an aspiring writer I finally have something published. For a long time I have been writing entries for What's the Story and been frustrated that I never won, even more so when Pablo announced that this great feature will end in 2008. The pressure was sure on. Today I won with the entry of Niai Fieso (find him [here) and this is how this character came to life.

Niai Fieso

Niai Fieso grew up in Veterned, the capital of Troiken. His family was poor and could not afford education for Niai, and he spent most of his youth roaming the streets.

Not much changed from my original entry. Ofcourse I had to come up with a beginning that fits in with a life of crime. All the names are anagrams also, Niai comes from Iain (new friend I met during CE), Fieso comes from Sofie (my oldest and best friend) and Veterned is an anagram of Deventer, my real life birth and living place. I tend to do this sort of thing all the time when I need names.

After a string of odd-jobs, he ended up working for con-artist Freon Drevan, who ran a bootleg racket selling knock off merchandise connected to the famous Podracer Gasgano. Drevan was impressed by how Niai managed to swindle beings with his warm and friendly demeanor, and before long Freon promoted Niai from lowly factory drudge to his right-hands Xexto. Together, they made a name for themselves, expanding their business from simple bootlegging to smuggling of various illegal wares.

While obviously being of the same intent that I wrote it this part has quite some cosmetic changes. All for the better I admit. When starting to write a WTS entry I search for possible connections to be made or things to flesh out. For this Xexto I found 2: A Xexto bounty hunter named Tosinqas without a face and just a death scene (wich envolved into a second entry I had send in) and the name Freon Drevan, a Xexto in the podrace audience who was embezzeled from his money by a former partner. Freon was created for a CCG card game. Seeing the story-potential I decided to make this Xexto Vendor the partner who scammed all the money off Freon. I am glad that the 'right hands Xexto', a wonderfull play on right-hand men, stayed in. Credits goes to Yoda's Waiter for that one who helped me with the entry and added this.

Niai was growing tired of being in Freon's shadow and hatched a plan to be rid of him. The crafty Niai began skimming profits from spice smuggling, while dropping hints to the authorities that led to a raid that got Freon jailed.

This changed quite a bit. I had it written like this: However, Niai was growing tired of playing second fiddle to Freon and hatched a plan to frame him. Whilst trying to con a spice smuggling crew of their shipment, Niai let it slip to the authorities of what was going on. During the raid, Niai grabbed a pack of spice and stole a ship with big plans for himself.

On his own, Niai became a successful con-artist, swindling provincial beings and businesses of sizable sums. One of his most successful scams was to pretend that he was the agent of galaxy-famous Gasgano. Niai managed to hoodwink businesses in the Corporate Sector for "exclusive sponsorship deals." The money involved would ensure his retirement, but his bluff was called by an Authority Attorney General, and he had to escape the Espos and the sector with his few belongings.

I didnt knew much from the Corporate Sector like the name of their security forces and after I read Espos and who they are I am glad to have 'police ships' changed into it .

Lying low on Tatooine, with very little money to his name, he took a food vendor job at the Mos Espa Grand Arena during the Boonta Eve Classic. The Podracing environment struck him as a perfect place to find foolish marks ready to be parted from their money. While scoping out potential victims, he suddenly received a trio of punches in his face: Freon was in the audience and a fight between them broke out.

They ended up both in the local jail, with Niai being transferred to the Corporate Sector authorities.

And so his story ends, I wanted to have it a bit of an open ending so it can be expanded upon whenever the possibility comes. I like the 'trio of punches' change a lot, I didnt accounted for the extra limbs, I had him as a right hand Xexto also instead making hand plural since he has 2 right hands.

The only regretable thing (besides the name image having a typo at the moment of writing this) that was removed was a reference to Star's End (his transfer being to there) which was the whole reason I made him wanted by the Corporate Sector anyway.

Still I am really happy and proud to have something contributed to the SW Universe .
