Did you enjoy the film "Vantage Point?" Here's a Star Wars story to hear . . .
Vantage Point arrived on DVD yesterday, featuring the tale of a terrorist plot to assassinate the President of the United States, as told through the eyes of eight witnesses. Each person's story and viewpoint builds upon the last, creating a framework wherein the truth is finally revealed.

Intriguing, isn't it?

Years ago, NBC did this with a TV series called Boomtown. While I only saw a few episodes, I really enjoyed the format. I enjoyed it so much that it sparked a Star Wars fan production that I wrote, produced, and released as a ChronoRadio: Serial Edition back in June 2003.

Serial Editions, as I called them, were "enhanced audiobooks." They were prose fan fiction stories that were then converted into audio format like an audiobook, but utilized voice actors for the spoken dialog, as sort of a cross between a traditional "audiobook" and an "audio drama."

The three-part tale, Parallels, tells a story from the days before the Jedi ban on attachment and follows three young Jedi (Kiran, Danner, and Taleena).

The story interweaves like that of Vantage Point or Boomtown, slowly revealing more until we discover the truth. However, while those are video productions, the benefit of prose allowed not just the dialog and general actions to run parallel to each other, but the writing style and phrasing as well, making for an interesting listen, to say the least.

If you are interested in hearing this early fan fiction "enhanced audiobook," you can download each segment of the story via the ChronoRadio page at Star Wars Fanworks. Just go under Serial Editions and download the three different parts.

You'll want to listen to them in the correct order: 1; 2; 3. If you are curious to actually read along and/or see how the stories literally parallel each other, you can go to any episode's individual episode page to download the original story/script, marked by its parallel segments. If you get interested about the little fan fiction corner of the SW galaxy that I've created since starting in producing fan audio dramas and such, there is also a link on each episode page to the Rayzur's Edge Audio Guidebook.

I hope you enjoy this project from half a decade ago, and I would be interested in your thoughts after hearing it.

Many thanks go to the voice actors portraying Kiran, Danner, and Taleena: Mile Lane; Ian Bowie; and Krista Kolesar, respectively.
