DragonCon 07 Wrap Up
Ok as promised I am bringing a summary of my first convention. I will provide a link to a slide show of the pictures I took. I attended DragonCon in Atlanta, and let me say one thing, this was an awsome first convention. I was only able to attend Sunday and Monday though due to my work schedule. First thing I wanted was autographs, you know get the expensive stuff out of the way. I got Ray Park and David Prowse to both sign "The Essential Chronology" book. That way its more personal. I actually ran into Ray Park on the escalator and thanked him once again for coming to the con and for the autograph. I have to admit he is a very nice guy and loves the fans.

Next, I hit the dealer area. Some might call this the vendor area. I am a big comic book fan, but I am also a Star Wars figure collector. Some stuff was a bit overpriced, but hey no one is playing a jedi mind trick to make me buy this stuff. I found an Unleashed Shock Trooper figure which is a pretty cool find. I picked the brains of many comic book artists, because I would like to have their job one day. I met Nat Jones who is doing the Frank Frazetta Death Dealer comic, he is an amazing artist. I hope he gets to meet Frank one day, he said that he was invited. Adam Hughes was very cool, I got him to autograph the Boba Fett one shot that he did the cover for. I also met Ethan Van Sciver, who is known for the Green Lantern Rebirth story, he was very cool and his pencils are so realistic. Also, I must give Chris Jones who does the Batman Strikes comic, he gave me a lot of advice which was very cool of him. For anyone who is unfalmiar with DragonCon here is a bit of info, it is a big costuming event which is like many cons, but I was really happy to see how many artists were there. There is an art show, and I got to meet Brent Woodside, who did a piece for C4. I actually bought his limited edition print from shopstarwars.com, because it stood out the most. He was very cool and gave me tips on color. He defintely was the most humble of all the artists I got to meet, and was very cool when I asked questions about how he approaches color. The collecting panel was very cool, and someone from Sideshow Collectibles was there to answer questions. I hope that they are there next year.

Sunday I got to see Chris Macht who made the documentary The Force Among Us, which is a film he made about Star Wars fans, I unfortunately did not have enough to buy the DVD, but he did sign a poster for me, and he was also very cool, and admire that he took another step to being more than just a fan. I also appreciate that he came to the convention and there were only about 25 people. I know that he was tired, but it was very cool of him to come out. I then hit the dealer rooms again and got the entire set of trade paperbacks of the OT for $10. What a deal!

Anway I had a great time, and anyone close to the Atlanta area or Southeast should come out to this con next year. It is held every year during Labor Day weekend. I am going to volunteer to help out at the art show next year to network and just to be a part of it, I can't wait for next year. A special thanks to the 501ST who were out there in full force, and were more than happy to pose for pictures. They were the true Star Wars ambassadors out there at DragonCon.
