Timeflow - Reading the EU In Order

My Grand Experiment
So, it's 2007 and I thought I'd try an experiment this year. I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. And while I don't claim to own all the books and comics, I come pretty darn close. And I'm really big on keeping things in chronological order - my DVD shelf seems completely disorganized to anyone else, but everything is exactly where it should be chronologically.

So with all this in mind, I thought I'd try and read the Star Wars Expanded Universe IN ORDER, or at least as close as I can get to it. This will no doubt prove difficult due to the fact that new material comes out every month, much of it scattered across the SW Timeline from one end to another. This not only places some forthcoming new releases behind what I will have eventually read, but also increases the amount I have to read. Considering my current page count comes in at 49,581 pages, this is obviously going to take some time.

I'd like to think I could get away with doing this in a year - all of 2007, from January 1st to December 31st. However, I know for a fact that this most likely will not happen. Life has this annoying habit of getting busy at times, and to pull off getting through just what I have now (not including the wealth of new SWEU material to come out in '07), I'll need to read something like 135 pages a day. Some days that will be easier than others - for instance, anytime there's a large block of SW Comics put together, 135 pages will fly by. However, other times - including some EU Authors whose works are tough to slog through for various reasons - 135 pages a day will seem more like 135,000 pages a day - it's just not going to happen.

But, I figured I'd document this little adventure as I went along, and where better to document such a thing than in my very own Star Wars Blog. Now, I'll warn you now, this is my first Blog. I'm not a Blogger, I've never been much of a Diary keeper, and this may be only interesting to me. Along the way, I'll give brief little reviews of what I'm reading and my feelings about certain things about the EU. You'll very quickly learn my favorite EU authors and my least favorite as well. You'll learn a lot about how I see the EU fitting together, and probably a little about me as we go along. I apologize for that last right now. Then again, for all I know, I'm the 3,931st person to do just this and no one will care. Who knows?

So, if you're still reading this, join me in my little voyage from the ancient past of the Old Republic to the distant future of the EU, hitting all the high - and low - points along the way. May The Force Be With You.

Wonderful idea! It would be handy to find a nicely stocked library to supply ones needs during this voyage. Sounds like fun. To the best of my abilities, count me in. I imagine someone would catch a lot of interesting stuff this way...

Amazing!!! I wish I could do that but I don't have the patience! I'd love to hear what you think as your going through. Also, welcome to the blogs! It's a fun place to hang out and make new SW friends. MTFBWY on your literary adventure. :D

This is quite the undertaking... but technically anyone who read Splinter of The Mind's Eye way back when it first released has read the entire EU from start to finish. Of course it wasn't much of an achievment for them (and they had to read SOTME, yuck). Happy Reading.

Wow! That sure is ambitious of you!! Good luck! I'm eager to see how you do!

Well, besides that, WELCOME! You're going to have the tme of your life here. I'm not a "diary keeper", as you said you're not either, and in my few short months here, I've learned that it doesn't matter if you're a diary keeper or not - blogs are totally different! You'll love it!

I say again - welcome, and you're going to have fun.

MTFBWY, and Happy New Year!

Your certainly are in for a ride!! Well, as long as passage is cheap and this ship has lightspeed capabilities, count me in for the voyage. Heck, I'll even try to keep up with you. Tell us when you start and I'll try to start with you, and, if I can keep up, I'll try to end with you too! If you've already started, then I'll just have to read fast I guess.

oh and, welcome to the blogs ner'vod!! I can't keep much of a diary either, and I have a minimal talent for writing, as you can probably tell if you look at my blogs, but I have a lot of fun here and have made many great friends that will last for the rest of my life. I hope you see you around.

Wow, that's really cool!

I've wanted for a long time to do this myself, but it just hasn't ever been practical enough. You're probably going to have to give yourself a little wiggle space and not be too much of a perfectionist if you don't want to go totally insane (and if you actually want to get it done), but it should be awesome no matter what! I think even just reading a bunch, but not all, of the EU in order would be a really cool experience.

Good luck, and happy new year!
