Lightsabre Weekly Fiction - Weeks 1 and 2
While Lightsabre has become known for being an interview site - Bonnie Burton interview hits the site tomorrow at 8pm GMT - it is primarily a fan fiction site.

Since we changed names from Wirezone to Lightsabre in 1999 we have added well north of 200 original stories, set over 20 eras and featuring original characters that date back to 1982 and the very first story Quest for Freedom, currently being adapted as a comic strip on the site - issue two starts later this month.

But the most ambitious storyline we attempted was the New Underworld Age. Back in 2000, myself and Jonathan Hicks, now a published author with his short story collection Those Dark Places currently on sale, sat down and began to bash out ideas for an invasion storyline, where the Setnin Sector would be invaded by a neighbouring sector. Being set in a busy part of the Mid Rim, Setnin is surrounded by aggressive sectors - the Brother Sector, the dangerous Quarshannel Sector and the fierce Ki-Ki Sector. We decided the aggressors would be the Ki-Ki, as our characters had roleplayed there in games and we knew their psychology. Jonathan took the lead in defining the Ki-Ki and their motives, I concentrated on Jan Lomona (recvently returned from a decade away from the sector) and Squadron Indigo, Paul on Ryath Centaur and the Iron Claws and Louis on the Setnin Jedi. As lead plot driver, Jonathan led the story, and I edited them so all hung together in the Chronology.

Now in 2007 we are coming back to the story we never completed. The two that are being presented now - Chancai Falls and Chasing Shadows - are set during the hours of the Ki-Ki's greatest victory, taking the Chancai Trade Centre on Zelon, effectively the powerbase of Setnin.

Chancai Falls however was a very difficult story, both in terms of writing and releasing. It was to have been the 150th story on the site, something written by all four members of the team (myself, Jonathan, Paul Squire and Louis Turfrey) and to be released in late 2001. But, the events of 9/11 put a stop to that as the invasion aspect of the tale and the associated image of a burning 'Trade Centre' seemed to close to the mark to be tasteful. So, we held it back and waited.

But we felt it was worth the wait. After Centennial, the 100th story, had used all four of us this was a very worthy successor and set in motion even more events.

So, check out both Chancai Falls and Chasing Shadows to see what was happening during this tumultuous time, check back Friday for A Single Day by Louis and then my personal favourite of the early NUA2 - Tactical Withdrawal by myself and Paul Squire.
