At, oh, 2:41 AM, I returned from my local theater from seeing The Clone Wars. First impressions? It does what it set out to do--nothing more, nothing less. It's an amusing romp, but definitely not the deep epic we saw in Episode III. More than anything, it gets me excited for the TV show.
I agree with some reviewers that the animation is, at times, jerky. But maybe I'm just spoiled by Wall-E. This is a fairly experimental thing they're doing here. It's not trying to be first-class animation, it's trying to take animation in new directions. And I think by the end of the TV series they'll have come a long way.
Things I liked? The droids, who were preponderously silly. The sweeping views and kinetic shots. Ziro the Hutt--again, for ridiculousness. And Stinky. Just because. ([S]he has a real name, I think, I just forget it.)
I'll certainly see it again, anyway. After all, when's the next time you'll see a Star Wars movie in theaters? (Well, if last time was any indication, maybe sooner than we think.)
