It was CURIOUSITY killed the beast. |
OK, this is so last week, but it's been on my mind enough that a blog entry should purge it before I enjoy the long weekend.
The new Curious George movie is really King Kong for kids. Let's review...
In the cruel unfeeling city, a man's business and livelihood is torn out from under him by investors. Rather than going quietly, the man (played by one of my favorite comedic actors) makes one last desperate move by getting on a boat headed to an exotic location never visited by western civilization. What he hopes to find there will restore his career.
Leading his semi-loyal band of paid crew mates through the jungle, the man discovers a simian unlike any other he's seen before. Before he knows it, the creature takes something of value from the man and a chase through the jungle begins. Along the way, we learn the creature has very real emotions and human-like understanding.
With his initial mission unfulfilled, the man gets on the boat and returns to the U.S. with the incredible creature on-board.
Back in the city, the simian has no idea how to fit in to this strange new environment. Any attempts to interact with it leads to destruction. The humans have no sympathy for the beast, and do everything they can to capture or expel him.
The creature's only desire is to be reunited with the friend he made in his tropical home and relive those fun times. After terrorizing the city, sending cars flying and people fleeing, the creature is reunited with his friend.
The story ends high above the crowds, with simian and friend together, trying to survive the flying machine that would destroy them.
Pop quiz.... which movie did I just summarize?
