 | I'm so Happy my Favorite Shows are Over |
Having favorite TV shows is a big commitment, even with a TiVo to save you the hassle of having to watch at the network-appointed timeslot.
(Watching "live" is for suckers anyhow... you maximize shows/hour by blipping through the ads. One hour = 40 minutes... wish I could do that with some meetings I have. Wait, maybe Adam Sandler could make a movie about that...)
With the finale of LOST on Wednesday, it was like a great weight has was lifted from my shoulders, one that had been bothering me for weeks. If I wanted to avoid spoilers from the daily media I'm exposed to (news, radio, other TV, websites, co-workers and friends -- yes, friends are media) then I have to at least watch on the same night the show aired. I hate TV spoilers, so there I would be at 1:30 a.m. forcing myself to keep my eyes open for another hour in Jack Bauer's life.
I just need to shake the shackles of my entertainment commitments for a few months.
Of course, as long as the Edmonton Oilers are alive in their pursuit of the Stanley Cup then I can't stray too far. But winning is a rare and different joy. Plus, I can't bring myself to watch time-shifted sports, so if I'm not at home things just move on without me.
Two more Sopranos and I'm home free!
=======================================
For the record, my "must see" list includes...
24, LOST, Survivor, Jon Stewart, Battlestar Galactica, Sopranos
My "if-I-see-it-that's-cool" list includes...
Prison Break, American Idol, Amazing Race, Survivor, Simpsons, Apprentice, Saturday Night Live

I missed one episode of 24 this season (cause I was moving 800 miles), 2nd to last episode. I hadn't watched previous seasons for no more "noble" reason than I watch a lot of TV already. But I've already bought Day 1 on DVD, and the others are in my future.
My must sees (as of now...who knows what I'll add next fall):
24, Galactica, Bones (HIGHLY recommended) Smallville, Family Guy, American Dad
I also would add Gilmore Girls to that list (no mockery, please) because me and my wife have been watching that since day one.
Next fall Aaron Sorkin has a show coming with Brad Whitford and Matthew Perry that I'll probably have to add....God bless the "Summer Break"

Ha! I know what you mean... tis the season we can finally relax, and maybe catch some reruns that we might have missed during the season (which doesn't work for Lost - that one's a non-stopper).
Alas I am a sucker without a hard drive TV system... but sometimes the commercials are the best part
BSG already ended up season 2, but have been re-running the second half this spring. They better put the full season 2 on DVD (my bread and butter not having TiVo) instead of this half season jazz. Can't wait for season 3.

I hear ya. I was addicted to Ally McBeal and Friends. I was sad when they ended, especially Ally McBeal, but I was relieved as well. The time commitments can be killers!
Wampa, I'm also looking forward to the new Matthew Perry show...he's one of my favorite actors. I think the show is called "Studio 64", or something like that.
You think this past TV season was constraining, just wait until the 2 new SW TV series air!

Maybe I can finally get around to seeing LOST while waiting another 4.5 months for BSG to come back on the air.

I make it a point of no longer watching any TV show currently in production. I just wait for it to get cancelled and then watch the DVDs.

I too love collected DVD-boxes of tv-series (just catched up on Stargate SG-1)...
My Must-See series are (in order of importance): The 4400 (just finished the 2nd season here in the Netherlands), Lost (now in its second season), Battlestar Galactica (just finished the 1st season), and I have just bought the 2nd season of The Dead Zone which would be a must-see if a station over here would air it!!!

I've been meaning to do my own blog about the virtues of the "non-stop season", which I think contributed to 24's success this year. Lost seems to be taking a few pages from this pagebook, as next year, they will be dividing their episodes into two non-stop "seasons" which is a strategy used by Battlestar Galactica. Non-stop seasons would definitely put an end to a need for sites like this: www.islostarepeat.com

I myself am a diehard LOST, Battlestar Galactica, and Sopranos fanboy too. So I feel your pain. heh
I'm relieved I can spend the rest of the summer now not losing my mind over whether Locke and Jack are gonna have a breakdown or whether Starbuck and Apollo are just gonna go nuts on each other in another drunken fit of hot space passion... Aaaghh!!

ewanandhaydenfan5, the new Matthew Perry show (from Aaron Sorkin, the great mind behind West Wing, American President, and A Few Good Men) is called "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," which is WAY to unwieldy of a title. It'll be "Studio 60" by episode 3.
Strangely, the same network is going to have an almost-identical show on. NBC will also air "30 Rock." Both are behind-the-scenes shows about sketch comedy series' like SNL. 30 Rock is a comedy, Studio 60 will be a little more drama.
Now, it's weird enough when two networks run similar shows, but both on the same network? Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?
