 | The Miracle Of Star Wars |
We've all had bad days right? But have you ever had a day where absolutely nothing goes as planned, and just when you are about to give up, along comes the miracle of Star Wars to save the day? Well, I have. And here's my sad tale -
There is no emotion; there is peace
The story starts 5 years ago when myself, my fiancee and my then 6 month old son, Kyle, were going on holiday to Spain. As niether myself or my fiancee drive, my parents were taking us to the airport. Our flight was at 9am, which meant we had to be up at 4am to get organised and be out the door by 6am. Of course, we overslept. We were awoken by my mother battering on our door at 5:30am! Mad rush ensues! We arrived at the airport just in time for check in. The flight took off on time, but the weather was terrible, and the plane was caught in some really bad turbulence. After 4 hours of having my breakfast coming back to haunt me on several occasions, we finally arrived at the Spanish airport. Believe me peace was all I wanted!
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge
Upon collecting our luggage, we discovered that there was no trolleys to put our luggage onto, and for some unknown reason, Kyle's pushchair wouldn't unfold. So there we were having to carry a 6 month old baby, an unusable pushchair, and 3 cases about a mile to where we were to meet our rep! By this time I'm cussing like a trooper, but it was about to get worse. We got onto the coach only to discover Kyle had picked the perfect moment to fill his diaper! There were no changing facilities on the coach, so poor Lady Vader had to carry him the mile back around the airport to the nearest baby changing facilities! After waiting on the coach for the better part of half an hour (by this time my fellow passengers have started to get ticked off at the wait, and one smart alec actually tries to have at go at me! Big mistake! I just wasn't in the mood ) Lady Vader comes back. the hour long coach journey to our resort and hotel began fairly uneventfull for about the first 5 minutes, then it began to rain.... And rain.... And rain.... And rain. It was torrential, and the rep told us this was the first rain this part of Spain had had for 8 months! And it was forecast to last all week! Then just as I thought it couldn't possibly get any worse.......the coach broke down!! We had to wait 2 hours for a replacement coach to arrive and we were still just under an hour's drive from our resort! By this time I am really in a foul stinker of a mood. And I've started to take my feelings out on Lady Vader, not exactly creating a good atmosphere between us. If I had this knowledge before we left, I definately wouldn't have come on this holiday.
There is no passion; there is serenity
Finally we arrive at our hotel, and get to our room, only to discover that the hotel hadn't provided any of the facilities we needed for Kyle that we had paid for when booking our holiday. And still the rain fell. This is the final straw for me. I erupt like a Mustafar volcano. I've decided that this is going to be a terrible holiday and I'm going home. So I storm to reception and demand to see a rep to see when the first available flight home is. I couldn't find a rep, so instead I head into the bar for a beer and a cigarette, and basicaly drown my sorrows. My feelings were getting the better of me, serenity was the last thing on my mind!
There is no death; there is the Force
As I'm sitting brooding at the bar at all the happy tanned families, I became aware of a bunch of kids watching t.v. behind me. They seem to be really excited about what it is thay are watching, so I turn around to see what this great show is. And you'll never guess what it is. It was The Phantom Menace!!!! Hallelujah!!!!! Immediately I brightened up and moved over to sit beside the kids to watch it. When I told them I was a SW fan, they asked me loads of questions about the saga. It was great. And from that moment on, I knew I was going to have a great holiday. And so I did. We all did. The weather was perfect in the end and we had the best holiday to date. The Force was definately with me through the rest of the holiday. Just a few yards from the hotel, we discovered a family bar and entertainment complex that had these paintings on the wall!
A fantastic holiday, and all because at just the right time the miracle of Star Wars came along.

A similar story happened to me! I had a car wreck and I was in the hospital in May of 2002. I don't remember much of it because I had a concusion but I do remember what I found on TV! After a long and painful day I found happiness in seeing Return of the Jedi on my tv in the hospital room! I was so excited! But, unfortunately, I was heavily medicated so I didn't make it through the opening crawl before I was asleep (normally that DOES NOT happen)!

Well sitting in a bar, on holiday, with SW on tv, I ended up "heavily medicated" myself, if you know what I mean

No comments from Vicomte or Rive Caedo on that one?

reminds me of the 6 months i spent in paris, only to experience the coldest winter on record there with major ice storms. star wars didnt save me from that one (well, it did in my heart), but germany and lots of beer did!

When I told them I was a SW fan, they asked me loads of questions about the saga. It was great.
LOL - it is a great pleasure to be admired for the endless banks of SW trivia many of us have stowed away in our heads. i always love when i can give someone, especially kids, more insight into SW from what i know. that is, as long as they dont make fun of my geek-dom. then they get the force lightning right in the behind!

Oh yes I am much better! Thanks for asking! Although I still don't remember exactly how the accident happened or the trip in the emergency helicopter (CareFlight).

I've had days like that, though not necessarily SW-related. But it makes me wonder...after you experienced all that stuff, including the first rain this part of Spain had had for 8 months , and then you come across something fantastic that you'd never expect, especially something so dear to you as SW, is that fate??

G, that was a wondefrul story! I've seen the pics before, but never heard the story. YOu probably told it before my time. But it IS awesome! Do you realize that if the trip was not crappy until that point, and if the hotel room had the baby facilities, you would have never had this wonderful story????
I guess you do. I've always been amazed at how destiny works, mostly with the good things but even bad things always lead to good ones. It's just amazing.
I have one life story that I would have never lived if it wasn'f for SW. i've never shared it with anyone but my family. I'll probably blog about it in the future.

Ok, my SW saves the day story is the first few days we lived in our new house (back in 2000). It was stressful to move in as it was, a lot of family & friends hovering over us "helping" (or not) and we were sick & tired of everything in general. But a few days after moving in, we decided to lock ourselves in the house, turn off the phones, splice the cable line & put a t.v. in our bedroom. A few sparks and a whiff of ozone later, the t.v. whirred to life & what to our wondering eyes should appear? A New Hope! We didn't even have to change the channel. We collapsed on the bed and watched the entire move (complete with commercial breaks) before passing out. All was well with the world.

I really shouldn't comment on this ^... But... youngjedijake8... you do know that Germany was also a fascist country back then with Hitler and all that? I don't judge a country for its past. If you don't like Spain, fine, but just don't say nonsense.

Thank you Eirtae.
I love going to Spain on holiday. I've been a times, but only to the coastal holiday resorts. I've been to Benidorm twice when I was younger with my parents, and I loved it. I was at Santa Ponsa 11 years ago which was great. The holiday in my blog was at Alcudia, or to be more specific, just outside Alcudia in a little resort called Playa De Muro. I loved Alcudia, and I definately want to go back one day. However, our lat holiday in Spain was in Cap Salou, just outside Salou, and it was a terrible holiday, but, that isn't the Spanish people or the Countries fault. It's the travel agents for selling us a holiday that was nothing like the one they advertised!

Lat year, I was offered a job in Barcelona by my old boss who owns a factory there. He's told me the job is mine if I want it. I would move, but my fiancee isn't too keen. I think she would get homesick, and to be honest, so would I. Anyway, the job is just the same one as I'm doing at the moment. I hate my job as it is without upping sticks and emigrating to another country to do it!

That's one of the reasons why I always plan my holidays in my own way without being organized by travel agencies... I book my flight, my hotel and plan my own route...
Anyway, the job is just the same one as I'm doing at the moment. I hate my job as it is without upping sticks and emigrating to another country to do it!
Yeah... I love my job (I'm a nurse) and I've been thinking of moving to some other country and work there for a while... But end up thinking that I prefer going on holiday that to work...
