The Future of Star Wars Gaming
Star Wars games have had a long and interesting past. With about one hundred games or so in the franchise, it's had its fair share of amazing accomplishments (KotOR, Republic Command, Battlefront) and no-so-pleasant experiences (Masters of Teras Kasi, The New Droid Army, TESB). I myself absolutely love video games (even more than Star Wars, which is barely possible), so combine that with my obsession with Star Wars, and I'm a very happy person. I think I have most of the Star Wars games worth owning (and even some that aren't worth owning), and I'm always thinking up new ideas for Star Wars games. And so I ask you, loyal readers and writers of blogs.starwars.com: What kind of Star Wars games would you like to see in the future?

I mean other than KotOR III. ;)

But no, seriously, I definitely want to see a KotOR III come out. I certainly hope it doesn't turn out to be a MMO like the rumors have implied, but even if it does, there's always the hope they'll make a KotOR III as well. That's probably my #1 title I want to see.

I also really, really want a sequel to Republic Commando! That cursed cliffhanger at the end is pure evil! :_| Oops, I'm getting too emoional. Anyways, I think the Xbox 360/PS3 could really bring Republic Commando to new heights, and will hopefully include a better multiplayer feature.

As for original properties, I'd love to see some kind of new vehicle-based game with gameplay sort of crossed between the Rogue Squadron games and TIE Fighter/X-Wing Alliance. The power of the 360/PS3 could make the graphics shine and give a whole new level of immersion for the experience. Remember what Rogue Squadron II and III coaxed out of the GameCube? The 360 could really do something with that concept!

But enough about my ideas! Like I said before I started rambling, what kind of games do you guys want to see? There are so many ideas for games, I'd be curious to see what you have to say.

Well, I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination, so I'm probably not the best person to be posting the first comment here, but oh well!

I'd like to see more games like LEGO SW... a game I actually have half a hope of completing!

However, considering I don't even have that game yet, I suppose I'm not the one to say. (Books will always be more entertaining for me...B-) *Nerd alert!*)

Really? I've always thought there seemed to be too many games like LEGO SW. I guess I've just grown slightly tired of them after LEGO SW 1 & 2, and the Complete Edition. I bought all of them, so I feel as if there have been so many. However, even I couldn't pass up a LEGO KotOR or LEGO Force Unleashed... those could turn out pretty awesome. :D

I agree with Green Am I that Republic Commando 2 needs to come out, as well as a KotOR III. TFU is a great step in the right direction for SW, though.

A KOTOR III would be nothing short of miraculous!!!

I saw this little short on YouTube where this guy from MIT attached this device to the camcorder to show how games could be displayed in 3D, relatively easily. Now THAT would be amazing!

A game like Bounty Hunter is long over due. But no more racing games, they just don't capture the essence of SW.

Sadly, a lot of SW games look like cheap copies of other games with SW skins (don't kill me).

Nerd alert!
Oh, please, gamers are way nerdier than book readers. If you read comic books it would be another story. Books have a way of describing peoples thoughts and feelings and telling stories in a way other media simply can't.
I'll quote from "Hithchikers guide to the galaxy": "Nothing happened...then nothing continued to happen."
Movies and games can't do that. Hope you understand what I'm talking about.

I completely understand what you're talking about! I don't think gamers are necessarily more nerdy than readers... just a different variety, if you will. ;)

"Nothing happened...then nothing continued to happen."
:^O I really need to get around to reading those one of these days! And these moments are why I love reading books! They can tell such a wide variety of things from action to inner thoughts to nothingness. Fantasticly amazing, IMO! :D

However, even I couldn't pass up a LEGO KotOR or LEGO Force Unleashed
Now that I would play. I just can't get the hang of the really hard games... oh well.

No problem, my blue-avatared friend! I never said that only gamers were allowed!

However, even I couldn't pass up a LEGO KotOR or LEGO Force Unleashed...

I'd buy 'em in an instant.

Umm... I think I lost you there. Sounds cool, whatever it is, though. :)

A game like Bounty Hunter is long over due.

Yeah, that has a lot of potential. Hopefully it won't turn out like Bounty Hunter did.

But no more racing games, they just don't capture the essence of SW.

Bombad Racing looked horrible, but the podracing games actually felt quite a bit like Star Wars, I thought. At least the first one did.

Sadly, a lot of SW games look like cheap copies of other games with SW skins (don't kill me).

Don't worry, I won't kill you. Like I said, there have been a fair shair of bad Star Wars games. I actually find that the LotR games have that as a bigger problem than Star Wars games, but I still see your point.

I don't think gamers are necessarily more nerdy than readers... just a different variety, if you will.

I'm both, so... what does that make me?

Well I am really excited about TFU for both the 360 and the Wii. I definitely want to see some more games that take advantage of the Wii platform. Flying spacecraft/speeders with the Wii controller (beyond the basic controls in lego SW) sounds like an awesome game.

I would love to see more of the Old Republic era explored in games such as Darth Bane's era. As for the RC2 - that would be great too!
