 | Why are you always hungover? |
I've decided to start by giving a little history to my screename.
For those that know me, I use Hangover Boy as my screenname on all of my message boards, instant messengers, and...well Blogs (this is my first Blog, go me)
I know that screennames often give other people an impression of who you are and what you're like, wether it be accurate or not.
I'll start off by saying that I'm neither hungover nor a boy (although, I suppose my wife might sometimes say otherwise). The name Hangover boy has had a long and (somewhat) interesting past (not really long or interesting, but hey, we all like to make ourselves feel important).
It all started during the first day of my freshman year of High School in August of 1994.
That would make this screen name....plus 2....carry the 1...integrate as x approaches infinity...almost 11 years old (but it wasn't until 2004 or so that I started using it here at Starwars.com).
Anywho, it was the last class (Geometry) of the very first day. I was really tired and ready to go home; who wasn't? This kid whom I never met before sits in his seat next to me. In the minutes before the start of class he notices my droopy head and baggy eyes and asks, "are you hungover?"
I responded "no, i'm just really tired." (Interesting conversation, I know...I was such the conversationalist back then). He then follows up with, "I think I'm going to call you Hangover Boy from now on."
I immedately was a little offended for this guy was already calling me names and I didn't even know who he was. The name almost died right there because he never actually called me that again.
Then one day, as he and I became better friends, he created this....story....called P-mail. I hesitate when I say "story" because it really became quite ridiculous. Basically, P-mail is a glorified Star Wars Parody (much in the style of SpaceBalls) whose characters include Hangover Boy (my character), AstroBoy (his character), Uncle Joe, Maverick, Colin 5(which is really just a clone of Hangover Boy but I wont get into that), and other assorted crazy characters.
We wrote our ideas into this notebook, and the story progressed as a series of "diary entries" (see Mary Shelly's Dracula...the book, not the movie) set in this Star Wars-esque world. Our other friends became involved which spawned the characters I mentioned above, and more.
Eventually this story evolved into a tabletop RPG where we figured out attributes and skills for all the characters (yes, we were big dorks growing up...wait...I still am...oh well)
But, alas, P-mail died after we all graduated college, but the name Hangover Boy lives on.
In short, I don't drink a whole lot and I've only had 2 hangovers in my life (I'm 24, btw, so I suppose there are plenty of more opportunities for that).
So that is the history of the name 'Hangover Boy' in a nutshell....a really big nut...like maybe one from Argentina...or something...
