Obi-wan's Realization!
I have failed you Anakin. I have failed you. Obi-wan Kenobi ~ ROTS

I should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over. Anakin Skywalker ~ ROTS

Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil! Obi-wan

From my point of view, the Jedi are evil! Anakin

Well, then you are lost. Obi-wan

We all know that Obi-wan went to Mustafar to fight Anakin and destroy him because he and Yoda knew that Anakin had turned to the dark side and become a Sith. They both saw the holo-vid of him in the Jedi Temple and of him bowing to Darth Sidious and being called Darth Vader, etc.

However, in watching ROTS again last night, during the scene outlined above, I caught the line, "Well, then you are lost." When Obi-wan said that, it seemed to me that at that moment, he truly realized that Anakin WAS actually lost to the Jedi; that he had indeed become the twenty-first lost Jedi. I found it interesting that he used the term "lost" and that I had not noticed it before. I don't know why I didn't notice it before, but we don't always notice everything the first hundred or so viewings, now do we. ;)

I also realized that Obi-wan began fighting with a renewed sense of vigor at that point and that he seemed to know that he had to prevail. This was just before the moment when Obi-wan jumped to the bank of the lava river and told Anakin that he had the "high ground" and not to try to jump over, that he would not be successful (in so many words). He was correct, of course. We know the events that transpire after that.

I believe we all have, at times, a single moment when some realization hits us. Even if we know deep down that something is true, we won't allow ourselves to really believe it until a particular incident happens or something is said that is poignant. I think, in Obi-wan's case, it was Anakin saying, "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!" That would hit close to his heart. Don't you think?
