Yesterday, I posted an entry concerning C-3PO's evolution in the OT and his story-telling capabilities. I had actually intended to bring up another topic in the blog, but neglected to and now I'm glad I didn't because it is actually a better, separate topic on its own.

Did you ever notice how "emotional" both C-3PO and R2-D2 are in the Star Wars saga? I have. They both display human emotions in their actions and "speech" constantly in all six films! In TESB, 3PO even says, "Ouch!" when R2 is putting his foot back on him and the sparks are flying!

What reminded me that I had forgotten to bring up this topic in my blog yesterday was a comment made by one (well, actually two) of the commentors from the blog. Thank you "The Ewok" and Jawa Joey for bringing up C-3PO's emotions!

Jawa Joey said, "I think that it's just a 3PO personality trait to have somewhat low self esteem, and dislike for being out of his element." What I wonder is how can a droid, an inanimate object, have low self-esteem? That is a strictly "human" feeling! He also mentioned 3PO feeling depressed.

I agree that 3PO displays these "feelings" constantly throughout the films, but how can he actually feel them? It's an interesting question! He's a piece of machinery; a piece of hardware, built by man (ok, by boy, since we know he was constructed by Anakin as a child)! In any case, he is not an organic lifeform!

R2-D2, although he cannot use, by our ears, intelligible speech, certainly is able to get across to us what emotions he is "feeling" by way of the tone of his beeps, whirs or screams and also by shaking if he feels frightened. We know what is going on in R2's mind by his actions and sounds!

I think it is because they are both such advanced pieces of technology that they are able to mimic humans in most ways. Also, they have learned over time to almost BE human, especially, to a degree, 3PO, since he has human form. R2 is just unique in his own cute little way! (Don't go there, nob01!! )

The emotions displayed by both of these two droids, inorganic though they may be, are truly visible and undeniable! Boy, is 3PO one emotional creature!!! (and such a scaredy cat!! )
