 | Rose Parade Day!!!! Woo-Hoo!! |
I've never been excited about a parade before...in...my...life..., but with George Lucas as the Grand Marshall of the parade and the Star Wars floats and stuff, this one is worth watching!! I'm actually excited and have gotten up this morning early just to watch it!! I've even been anticipating this for several days now ~ I can't believe how excited I am really...
I feel like I should have felt when I was a child about parades...
When you are a child, you are supposed to get all excited with flutterby's in your stomach over the prospect of going to see, or seeing a parade as big as the Rose Parade on TV even, a parade. They are supposed to be really thrilling to see all the beautiful floats with the bands playing and the performers, etc. I never got that out of parades. I just saw them as a bunch of people walking by or trucks decorated... whoopteedoo... (I know, some of you are thinking that's out of character for me as I always get excited about EVERYTHING, right? Well, not parades; hey, I can't stay excited about everything ALL the time!)
This year will be different. With Star Wars as the overriding main theme, it's going to be grand indeed! I even saw a picture of one of the Star Wars floats being put together and got excited at that!! I will be like most kids! I do have flutterbys! I AM excited in the anticipation and I CAN'T WAIT!!!
Ok, it's less than an hour now, so I'm going to go get ready!!
Have fun everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: I found a YouTube clip of the Star Wars Extravaganza piece of the parade! Yea!

I'm not a parade woman either but this is different as you comment. I'm now watching the Travel Channel Pre- Parade show and they aired a very short interview with GL and gave a peek at the Naboo & Ewok float. I'm soooo excited & can't wait to see the Troopers march!!! I'm ready.....let the parade begin.
BTW, read your message on "TSC". Happy New Year to you & yours. ((hugs))

Well, I just saw the floats and the 501st with the band they had dressed as Imperial Officers! Very interesting! I love that they were playing the SW Theme! Darth Vader leading the 501st marching and Anakin marching beside the Theed float with Queen Amidala on the float and Padme marching beside it!!
Well done!!!
I LOVE IT!
Now I can't wait to see GL doing his Grand Marshall thing! Squeeee!
This is fun!

I wish I had the Travel channel ^ !!
I did just see the SW floats. Cool stuff. DV and the 501st were pretty cool too, but I thought the troopers should have spread out more to look like there were more. Maybe the parade only allowed so much space for them or something.
Happy new year!

I saw it also. I loved it. But I thought she should have paid more attention to the Naboo float. On channel 7, they barely looked at it. Instead they decided to interview some lady. But I still loved it.

HG, I'm like you in that I'm not usually into parades, but I sure was looking forward to the Rose Bowl Parade. I even made sure I was up in plenty of time to watch it!
After being disappointed with NBC's coverage, we switched over to Discovery Channel's HD broadcast, and, boy, was I glad we did - much sharper picture and much better commentators (except for the one goof when one of the DC commentators said Rte. 66 starts in St. Louis . . . when it indeed starts in Chicago . . . and calling Chewbacca "Chewie Chewbacca"! "They're such amateurs," my youngest noted.).

The two SW floats were awesome (although I would have liked it better if the camera panned to all three sides), as was the band and the 501st Legion. Seeing the Grand Marshal himself rolling down Colorado Blvd. in the vintage auto was pretty cool.
While I'm a Midwesterner, and, thus, should root for UM in this afternoon's Rose Bowl game, I'm cheering for the Trojans. My oldest hopes to attend USC next year, and it's never too early to get "Trojan Fever"!
Happy 2007!

Mmmmm...Get ready to sit on your couch and watch a parade...Interesting concept!
I just saw it too, sweetie. Loved it...Could not get enough of it.
Hope you and hubby had a great New Year...I, on the other hand, was sicker than a dog with food poisoning of some sort. I'm "ok" now, but man, what a way to bring in the New Year, eh?
Love ya, sweetie!!

Im right there with you kiddo; Ive always said there are TWO things you will never see me at: Parades and protests.
That being said, seeing SW play such a major role in a very well reknown parade such as The Rose Parade was thrilling, to see it in such a socially acceptable forum, and also knowing that most of the participants were actual FANS chosen by Lucas himself to be there...now THAT was more than worthwhile to watch!
PS Good to have you back sweetie! Take it easy on your back though, k?...

I typically don't watch parades either, but I did this year...must be all that marching I did in HS I got my "night shift" booty out of bed early this morning so that I could see the extravaganza...and I am glad I did!! I even watched the "pre-parade" on the Travel Channel...and just loved seeing SW get the recognition it deserves!!
Happy New Year to you, too

Ever since this site announced the parade and George's involvement and the 501st involvement I was like, "yeah, and, so what?"
This parade means nothing to Brits although I do like military bands so I watched it, and had to admit it looked pretty good. I had to laugh (and agree) with the commentators quips about the 501st, that was hilarious, although the 501st guys marching was okay, seeing as though they are not military types. It was hardly parade-style precision, but I didn't expect that.
Can someone explain the significance of this parade? Is it traditional? Does it commemorate anything? Is it the same date every year?

Hey, Rogueish!! Glad to see you!
Here's a link to help answer some of your questions...
Tournament of Roses History
In reality, it's because the parade kicks off the Rose Bowl game which is the Championship College Bowl game where the #1 College football team is determined for the season. For those of us who really follow college ball here, that's a REALLY big deal! It's also one of the best parades put on; right up there with Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

HG, I'm like you in that I'm not usually into parades
Same here. But I was so psyched for this parade! And would you believe that I FORGOT about it on New Year's Day?! Hubby had to remind me!
*hangs head in shame*

Absolutely. Even though I had nothing to do with the parade, I was especially proud to be an SW fan at that moment.

Am I the only person who didn't watch it? (Sorry, I decided to sleep in.) Were there any floats, or just the 501st marching?
