For those of you who aren't aware, today was National Police Officer Memorial Day. It is the same as Memorial Day, except for police officer killed in the line of duty instead of soldiers. I understand that most of us have gotten tickets and may have a bad taste in our mouth because of it, but deep down I know we all have a deep respect for police officers. I'm studying to be a police officer, which has given me the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with police officers. They are some of the most honorable, brave people I have ever had the privelage of meeting. They don't do their job for money (believe me, they don't make much), they do it because they want to help people by protecting and serving them. Many of them give up their lives to do this. So my request to you is, regardless of whether or not you have gotten that speeding ticket that makes you cringe whenever you see a cop, please thank a police officer for simply being a police officer. It makes it all worth it to hear one citizen thank them for their hard work. These men and women would lay down their lives to protect you without even knowing you; the least we can do is thank them for it. Even if you don't get to thank them on Police Officer Memorial Day, thank them when you get the opportunity. It will mean the world to them.
