Kir Kanos
First Appearance: Crimson Empire comic series
Why him? In the films, the Emperor's Royal Guards are a mystery. Their fate following the Emperor's death is revealed in the Crimson Empire comics and we finally get to see what's underneath the helmet and robes. Plus, a double-bladed force pike would make an excellent accessory.
Grand Admiral Thrawn
First Appearance: Heir to the Empire novel
Why him? A blue-skinned Chiss, with black hair and red eyes, Thrawn was the strategic mastermind behind Timothy Zahn's trilogy which sparked a renaissance in
Star Wars interest in the early 90's. Through the study of his enemy's art interests, Thrawn would know his enemy's weaknesses making him unbeatable. In addition to the novels and other minor appearances throughout the EU, Thrawn was featured in the TIE Fighter video game and was made as a 3¾" action figure.
Mara Jade
First Appearance: Heir to the Empire novel
Why her? As an assassin for deceased Emperor Palpatine, Mara was an Imperial trying to make her way through a galaxy where the Empire she has lived for all her life no longer exists. Beautiful and deadly, her final assignment from the Emperor was simple: Kill Luke Skywalker. Mara has appeared in numerous novels, a
Mara Jade comic mini-series, and video games, including a starring role in the
Jedi Knight expansion,
Mysteries of the Sith. For the Decipher Collectible Card Game, model Shannon Baksa was selected to "play" Mara.
Padmé (arctic suit)
Appears in: Clone Wars Volume 1
Why her? Because the snow bunny costume is just so darned cute. Plus in the
Clone Wars cartoon, we get to see Padmé on a solo mission kicking battle droid butt (using C-3PO as bait just adds to her relentlessness.) Added bonus: give the figure a staff and you've now got a Echani Handmaiden figure from
Knights of the Old Republic II.
Asajj Ventress
First Appearance: Jedi: Mace Windu
Why her? Created for the
Clone Wars based on unused concept art from Episode II, Asajj Ventress was a major character in the cartoon, comics, and novels. 3 ¾" figures were release of her in both the comic book and cartoon styles. She wields twin curve-handled lightsabers given to her by Dooku.
Quinlan Vos
First (Named) Appearance: Emissaries to Malastare comic series
Why him? Based on a character in the background of Episode I, Quinlan Vos officially was elevated beyond EU status when Obi-Wan says in Ep III "Saleucami has fallen, and Master Vos has moved his troops to Boz Pity." Though the death of Quinlan Vos was written into early drafts of the Episode III script, an actor was never cast. Vos's story arc is told primarily in the comics where he serves as a Jedi spy who attempts to infiltrate Count Dooku's ranks; a mission which brings him perilously close to the dark side.
