I can't believe I'm in WIRED!
In the next issue of WIRED magazine (16.09): Meet Leland Chee, the Star Wars Franchise Continuity Cop by Chris Baker with art by our own Joe Corroney.

I'm still in shock as to how quickly this all happened. Special thanks to Adam Kahn from LucasArts PR for setting this up, Chris Baker (a different Chris Baker than the Chris Baker who used be in LucasArts PR) and ALL the folks at Wired, Joe who gave me a sneak peak of the original sketch and ink of his art at Comic-Con, my fellow Jedi-in-arms from The Force Unleashed team, Haden Blackman and Brett Rector (the Jedi on the right in Joe's Jedi trio art), and all of my colleagues in Lucas Licensing.

From the interview, to the photoshoot with Haden and Brett, the follow-up interview, and the online interview, I truly had a blast. I hardly need a reminder that I have the BEST JOB EVER but to see it on the cover of Wired is unbelievable.

Thanks all!

-Leland

Really interesting interview, Leland. So you started as a QA tester? That's heartening, doing that work myself. I spoke to one of the Force Unleashed guys last month at Comic Con in San Diego. It seems like a motivated individual can go pretty far with an in-house developer (where I work, the devs are mostly overseas) like Lucasarts. Is there typically a lot of crossover from Lucasarts to the other divisions like Licensing and Lucasfilm, or is your story pretty atypical? Hey, that photo of you sitting on the bed - that's not your room is it? :)

Very cool -- and fascinating! (And now I know why you changed your screenname. ;) ) The article raised a question which I've seen posted around here... what is the new Clone Wars movie (and TV series) considered, canon-wise? Is it "GWL" (or G-level, I think it was once called), because of his involvement, or something lower?

I just read the article (my Dad just brought home a copy literally an hour after I read this blog), and it was great!

"Lucasfilm has to plan ahead and think long term." (WIRED)
And that's why we stick with you! :D

Thanks for the heads up on the article!

Hey, that photo of you sitting on the bed - that's not your room is it?

A few make the crossover, but not many. The most notable ex-tester? Matt Wood in SkySound, voice of General Grieovous.
The room is in Licensing. More of this room can be seen in one of the online videos that goes with the Wired article.

I'll do a short blog about the screen name when I get a chance.
The Clone Wars is T, below G, above C.

Thanks for all the kind words and support over the years. Now maybe you'll someday say "oh that guy? I knew about him way back when he was still Tasty Taste."

Congrats again on the article Leland! It was an honor and a real treat to get to draw you (and Haden and Brett) as Jedi Knights for the article :) Especially after working with you guys on SW projects over the years. Thanks for the assist with the reference material too. The article turned out really great!
