Today started off as a potentially terrible day. I had to get up early to go to a 3.5 hour Spanish class I hate. I was running a little late, so I skipped breakfast at the house and just tossed in a couple rice cakes to eat while walking to class. In my haste to get to class, I inadvertently left my purse in my locked car...leaving my keys behind as well. I realized this while halfway to class, too late to turn back because I would miss my class. On top of that, I realized that I had done something with my keys before running away from my car. I couldn't remember if I had left them inside on the seat or something or put them in my purse. Then another realization hit me: it was entirely possible that I had taken my purse out of the car, set it down on the ground while fumbling with the rice cakes, and then walked off, leaving the purse on the ground for anyone to take. Plus, if the keys were locked inside, I would have to fork over more money to pay a locksmith to open my car for me. Sith!!! Not what I would consider a great start.
So, what is already a dreadfully long class was made even longer by the need to get to my car and make sure it and my purse were still there. Fortunately, this is where the good part begins.
After class, I speed walked to my car. Neither my purse nor my keys were on the ground next to it, so I cautioned a look inside. Joy of joys, my purse was locked safely inside! But with my keys in it. Fortunately, since I park in the closed lot at my sorority house, I leave the windows cracked. Usually I only crack them about half an inch, but in my haste this morning I didn't roll them up as far as usual. There was just enough room for me to slip my skinny little arm inside and unlock the door. I had my purse, keys, money, etc., and to make matters better, my car was a little cooler than usual because of the extra air flow. Excellent.
But it gets better!
I received an email from the journalism college last week detailing an editing job in town to which even lowly undergrads could apply. I sent in my resume, and today they asked if I would be willing to come in for an interview tomorrow. After thinking for .2 seconds, I said yes. From the tone of the email asking me to come in, it sounds like I have an excellent shot at getting the position as long as I don't make an arse of myself at the interview. Sweet!
And it gets even better!
Last week, with a desperate need for money, I raided my hoard of stuff here, and came up with a book and a set of DVDs to sell on eBay. I listed them both, sure that the book would sell but the DVDs wouldn't. I checked the status of both my auctions today, and both of them are selling! I'll be off to the post office tomorrow to put them in the mail (should I receive payment from both the buyers by then). Now, what other crap do I own that people would be willing to pay money for? Maybe I'll spend the day smashing my Pringles to see if I get one to come out the shape of a random religious icon. That baby would fetch 20k!
Today's been so lucky that I would go out and buy a lottery ticket if I didn't have the sure-fire Pringles money-making plan. Now, where did I put my hammer?
Update: Man, I've way underestimated the power of ebay. When I was researching the average auction price for the DVDs I was putting up for sale, most people who were selling the exact same thing weren't even getting any bids, and the auctions were ending with no sale. I listed mine at $5 to see if I could just get rid of them. You can imagine how shocked I was when I saw my DVDs sold for $26.10! Goodness gracious, today was an excellent, excellent day!
