I know from personal experience that becoming a participating member of the Hyperspace Webcam Chat Party, while a rewarding and entertaining experience, can be a bit confusing and even uncomfortable in the beginning. To ease new chat members into our little community, I present the following, a handy guide to the seemingly random references and in-jokes chatters will often use:


Acronyms:

BBL
"Be Back Later."
This indicates that a chatter has to leave the computer for an extended duration, but will try to log back on sometime later that date. Shorter periods are denoted by "BBS", or Be Back Soon.

BRB
"Be Right Back."
Generally used when a chat participant must leave the computer to attend to a brief, real world matter, but expects to return soon.

LOL
"Laugh Out Loud."
Used to indicate something is funny. Sometimes, it is also used to indicate suprise, bordom, and even horror, although the prime meaning is far more accepted and will lead to less confusion.

MM
"Master Mike."
A moderator who frequents the Hyperspace section of the Star Wars.com Message Boards, Master Mike is generally a judicious and reasonable authority figure, and has been known to disperse the occasional rowdy conversation that crop up in the Chat (Flame wars, blatant sexual content, and large-scale role playing.)

MTFBWYA
"May the Force be with you All."

QOOC
"Quoting Out of Context."
When a chatter makes a remark that can be interprited to mean something raunchy or very amusing, another chatter will often place that quote in the QOOC thread on the Cantina board. Here is a Link.

ROTFL
"Rolling on the Floor Laughing."
A hyperbole of LOL, used to say that something is extremely funny. Sometimes spelled "ROFL."

ROTFLMAOROTFLLMAOLOFLLROTFLMAO
Something Snodak says when she's had too much sugar.


Terms and Phrases

Chatter
Common designation for a person who participates in the Webcam chat. There are around a dozen regular posters of this nature at any given time, with several dozen more occasional. A comprehensive list is forthcoming.

Dark Silly Side of the Force
An organization founded by the Dark Lord Count Boobu, the DSSF is dedicated to the obliteration of the Silly Light Side of the Force and the spreading of Silliness throughout the Galaxy. When the conflict, known as the Silly War, is in a dormant phase, the DSSF promotes the writing of Fan Fiction. The Silly Wars webboard.

-Goes to sit in the Corner-
This phrase is used when a chatter decides that he or she does not want to actively particiapte in the current, predominate topic of the chat, although may still watch it. This occurs either when a conversation threatens to turn into too raunchy or aggresive a discourse, or when a serious topic of some thought comes up that some do not care to partake in.

Often a stand in for QOOC, this phrase indicates that something another poster said was somewhat . . . suggestive.

JM's Notebook
This fabled tome, maintained by JediMary, stores the more ridiculous exploits and personality quirks of the Webcam chatters.

LIght Silly Side of the Force
This group, lead by Erel, is diometerically opposed to the DSSF and has been engaged with a war with them until very recently, when an uneasy truce was called.

Tater Tots
The mysterious source of Bspacewiz's power (along with his post count of course.)

Tumbly
KautDriveYard's familiar, a living tumbleweed which is known to pass through the chat during times of relative inactivity. It has been known to be agressive around amphibions, and is reportedly invulnerable to injury.
