 | A Long Time Ago.... |
Perhaps you don't remember that quote from either TPM or AOTC. Nope, it's from a video game. I game I had a long time ago for the Nintendo 64. Star Wars Episode I Racer!
I even remember buying it. I thought to myself, "I don't know what this Star Wars is, but I love racing!" It was only 10 dollars at Toys'R'Us. I remember being surprised that there was only one human. Yep, I had no clue what anything was but I played that game so much! I don't think that I ever beat the game though, no, it got really hard at the end.
Sadly, I sold the N64 in 2003 or 2004 to buy more games for my new Xbox. It was a while until I remembered my old N64 and the racing game. So...just earlier this year I bought a used N64 off of E-bay! And sure enough, it came with the Podracing game! Yes! Just turning on the game brought back all of the memories I'd stored back from 1999-2002.
Thanks to all the playing, I immediately recalled all of the Podracers' names while watching Episode I for the first time in 2005.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that. Does anyone else have the game?
MTFBWY! God bless!

Ya, I've got that game (for PC). I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination, but I got it when I was younger and I played it quite a bit. I never even got remotely close to beating it, but I still enjoyed it. I haven't played it for a while, and I probably won't again for a very long time, but it was still good a while ago.
Thanks for bringing up the memories!

That's what I've discovered. I enjoyed it more when I was younger.
that game was hard.
Yeah! Especially for a 10 year old.

I recognized that quote! I had it for PC. It was hard. I wasn't even close to beating it.
The other quote I remember was
"These people come to my store, they no buy. Why nobody buy? 'Eyyy."
I remember that one because I always wondered why he channeled The Fonz at the end there.
Heh, and just the other day I was the arcade and got to play the arcade version again, with Anakin's pod's tank-style controls. That was fun.

I feel ancient now, thanks.
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I was 20 (I think) when it came out and tried my very best to beat it, but failed. I think I reached the second race of the Boonta Eve curcuit when I finally gave up. My N64 is still around, though. I bring it out again every couple of years or so. Cool blog!

Yes, I still have that game for the N64! I haven't got it out in a while but I do have it. In fact, the game system was boxed in a cool SW themed package that was all about Podracer (which came with the system of course). I used to have podracing nights with my brother-in-law when we would stay up to wee hours battling it out on many of the courses. Definitely a fun, classic game.

I never really thought of it that way but, yeah.

My job is done. It's definitely hard to beat, I think I got near to the end, but I never beat it.

Sounds like fun. Nowadays my family battles on Mario Kart Wii.

That game was a blast! I never owned it, but played it a lot for free at Toys R Us, then with friends when a friend of mine with an N64 bought it.
I thought to myself, "I don't know what this Star Wars is, but I love racing!"
It's cool to know that your introduction to Star Wars was through this game. The variety of things that hook us as Star Wars fans is amazing, isn't it?

Very true. I played Shadows of the Empire for N64 before I had any idea what Star Wars was about. I was asking my mom, "Didn't they make a movie about this, called Shadows of the Empire?" And when I finally saw the Special Edition of the OT, I was thrilled when I heard the same music from Shadows of the Empire. "Wow! It's just like the game!" I remember thinking.

But yeah, I definitely remember (and still own) Episode I Racer. And I remember that quote. Even though I never play my N64 anymore, I'd never dream of giving it up for any reason. It still sits in a plastic bag at the head of my bed, waiting for the time when my nostalgia seizes hold me again...
Wow. Then I know you remember Episode I - Battle for Naboo for N64! That was pretty awesome too. But I adored Rogue Squadron before then, 'cause I had just started being a fan by the time those games came out. Ah, thanks for that nostalgia, MasterMonkey13.

Hee hee, yes I have it for PC!!! I could never play it until after AOTC came out though, because our computer was so pathetic. I actually did pretty well at it! I didn't technically beat it though - my guy friend is AMAZING at video/computer games, so I made him do a lot of the levels for me. Although there were some levels I could do that he couldn't. So basically we beat it together. Yeah, I know, I'm a little cheater...... ![]:)](http://blogs.starwars.com/share/img/emoticons/devil.gif)
