What?
"I sense that you are becoming the greatest of all the Jedi." Ah, the simple yet complex words of Palpy used to transform Anakin to his evil will. But do these words have deeper meaning to them?

First of all, Palpatine uses the words, "I sense," about three times in Episode III. Now obviously, we can all sense things at some points, but did Anakin ever consider these words as suspicious by a non-Force user? No! Because he's blinded by the dark influence of Palpatine! And just how far does that darkness reach? Can one Sith blind the most powerful of the Jedi? Can Jedi really lose the abilily to use the Force as a result of the Sith's presence, as Master Windu states?

Already we have some questions, but let's look at this, "that you are becoming." So we see that he is not yet, but will be. Is Sidious refering to that under him, Anakin could become the greatest? I would think so. Or, could it be that he is saying that Anakin is already the most powerful?

And the final part of the sentence, "the greatest of all the Jedi." Of all the Jedi? I mean, surely Anakin couldn't take on Yoda. But let's look at this. Obi and Yoda are the last two known Jedi. But, instead of what happens happening, Yoda goes to face Anakin, and Obi goes off to the Emperor. Well, here we get Obi-Wan walking into the Chancellor's office and saying, "Hello, there." well the Emperor gets up and zaps at Obi but he blocks. Then they get on the little thingy that goes up into the Senate and after a short fight the Emperor kicks Obi-Wan off. The end.

Here goes Yoda in Padme's ship. But do you think that Anakin would have responded to Yoda the same way he did to Obi-Wan? Perhaps Anakin would have listened better to a wise Master that he always honored than to an old buddy who was "weaker" than him. Would Anakin have listened to Yoda? We may never know, but I can say one thing for sure, I think that Yoda would have won. But in the end, these words by Palpy only inflated Anakin's ego so much that he became over-confident in his skills and payed the price for it. So in a way, Palpatine destroyed Anakin.

So, "I sense that you are becoming the greatest of all the Jedi." Not all, my friend, most of the Jedi. So, there are my thoughts on that scene. Commemts are gladly welcomed.

May the Force be with us all! God bless!

Actually, we will NEVER know. Interesting scenario tho.

My take on Palpy saying to Anakin "I sense that you are becoming the greatest of all the Jedi." was to stroke his ego and make Anakin feel powerful, but at the same time under appreciated by the Jedi.

I also have thought about your proposed idea of the reversal of who faces who at the end of ROTS. I think Anakin would have responded differently to Yoda... but I can't say how.

Good points and nice blog.

Have you seen Episode III?

You mean Yoda told Obi-Wan that he would lose against The Emperor, and then Yoda went to The Emperor and Obi-Wan to Anakin.

Of course, Palpy was just pulling Ani's strings....once again. He fed Ani what he needed and wanted to hear. As LTjedijunkie said, it was to stroke his ego and make Anakin feel powerful, but at the same time under appreciated by the Jedi.

So we see that he is not yet, but will be. Yes, ironically, Anakin never became the greatest Jedi. He became all Sith-y as Vader before that could ever happen. :_| It's too bad, too.....Ani could have "brought balance" by staying on the light side...but then we wouldn't have had so much fun wit this saga, now would we?? :D :p

Nicely blogged! :)

Excellent thoughts, UTF19 (can I call you that?)!

But do you think that Anakin would have responded to Yoda the same way he did to Obi-Wan?

No, because Anakin had a lot more respect for Yoda. As you said, he saw Yoda completely differently than he saw Obi-wan AND there was no jealousy over Padme with Yoda. The movie would have ended entirely differently and we wouldn't have had the rest of the saga as MO2YP pointed out.

Great blog!! I like it! :)

Well that's what did happen, if you recall I stated this But, instead of what happens happening, before the part you quoted. And yes, any Star Wars fan has seen Episode III, and so have I.

May the Force be with us all! God bless!
