 | A Sacrifice leaves a Question |
"Only a master of evil, Darth." Obi-Wan and Vader confront in a final epic duel between master and apprentice, good and evil, brother and brother. Of course we all know that Darth Vader strikes down Obi-Wan as a result of Ben's sacrifice to save Luke. But....
If the battle had continued with no interference, with no Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and droids to look after, who would have won. It appears that Vader had the upperhand when Ben sacrificed himself, but, the power of the Force is strong, and I think that Ben could have easily defeated a cyborg just by being smart.
And what of this question, I have heard that Luke blasted shut the door to seal Vader behind it. First of all, Vader could have stabbed his saber through it. But who really did shut the door, Luke, or Ben? That is a question that I've wondered for a while.
And why didn't Luke rush in with his lightsaber and confront Vader with Ben? But, then Vader would know of his son, which could be disasterous.
Those are my thoughts, add your thoughts if you like.
Vader versus Ben, who would win?
May the Force be with us all! God bless!

i think vader would win, but, if vader was killed by ben, would he get through those stormtroopers?

Physically, you mean? Maybe. But Ben won by sacrificing himself.
Anakin was always a better light sabre duelist than Obi-wan, but Obi-wan, in his humanity, had an advantage, too...

Well, they were both old men. I read somewhere that Obi-Wan was an old man wracked by his guilt about Mustafar, and that Anakin was an old-ish man that was barely human, and had to deal with his whole life being ruined. Would the stormtroopers help him? I mean...in Last of the Jedi I think it was, it said Anakin/Vader was alone. Would his troops be loyal enough to him to fight a Jedi for his corpse? I think not. They probably would have run away as fast as their little clone legs could carry them, (cont)

Allowing Ben to escape (how did he get to the Death Star without the Falcon? ) or maybe he hijacked a TIE fighter. I think that humanity (Obi-Wan) would have won, just because he proved that although Anakin/Vader MIGHT be the STRONGER fighter, its brains not brawn that win at the end (think about Mustafar and how Accuracy beats Strength, thats mentioned in the RotS novel) but if the troopers were loyal to Vader, they would gun down Kenobi as he fled.

ben would win probably, but considering that vader had the stormtroopers, they would probably interfear, which would out number ben, because luke, leia, han, and chewbacca would have to leave before vader sensed luke

DV a cyborg. Everyone seems to look at him like a machine. His arms and legs were machines, he couldn't breath except with help, but the most important part of him was still there. His heart, evil it was by that time, but I think he would have won. JEDILILY1026

Interesting question. Obi-Wan was holding his own against a cyborg, despite the age limitations he faced. I think he knew that he could do more damage against the Sith as a martyr so to speak, and I think he wanted to taunt Vader with the strike me down line because of his reference to power. He knew what Vader wanted and he knew that Vader couldn't get what he wanted through the dark side.

VADER. Although as Ami put, Obi-wan *won* that battle by ascending into the Force and becoming with it for all eternity. Only there, could Obi-wan truly *hlep* Luke fulfill his destiny and bring Anakin back through the darknes and into the light. Angel

you guys are asking the wrong questions.......instead of asking who would win you should be thinking of the line you are analyzing......why does Obi-Wan refer to him as Darth.......in no other place that i can find does any Jedi address any Sith by the title of Darth! SO WHAT IS THE DEAL THERE.......Oh and by the way light always triumphs over dark
Obi-Wan would have rocked Vader like it was 1999!!!!!!!

How does Dooku (and also Yoda) remain so agile in his old age, but Ben doesn't? Is it because he spent those 20 years communing w/Qui Gon?
Because Ben looked and moved as an old man...Vader would've won...no doubt.

You could also say that maybe Ben closed them to protect Luke from confronting Vader before he was ready.
I see that being true.

and ben would have won because vaders fighting in that instince was very clumbersome and ben had probably been plannig it while he was gaurding luke while vader wanted reveange

Yes Vader could have stabbed through the door, but remember it's 1977 and the special effects of the day couldn't have done it. Luke cannot go help Ben because he very wisely knows he'd be dead in about two seconds. Becoming a true master of the lightsaber takes years of training, and Luke can barely deflect a remote's bolts while blind.

Oh, plus I'm sure Tarkin and the rest of the Death Star commanding staff wouldn't have been happy with a big hole in a door of the brand new Death Star. Also the blast doors were to prevent fire or other hazardous substances, or creatures, from leaving the hanger; as well as the added function of isolating the hanger if it became exposed to space so the Death Star wouldn't lose all of it's air.

This "Darth" thing has bothered me for a long time. I rationalize it by thinking that Obi-Wan said it to "dehumanize" him and remind himself that the monster he was fighting was not really Anakin Skywalker. After all, Obi-Wan considered Anakin to be dead. We have no way of knowing what Obi-Wan felt in the Force when he looked at Vader.
