Helper or Hinderer
Ahhh, long time no blog. So, we all know of Luke and his journey to become a Jedi and his dreams of being a hero. (okay maybe not) And we often place Han, Leia, Chewie, and Lando along side Luke as the major heroes of the day. But let's not forget our droid buddies, 3PO and R2.

So, we already consider R2 a hero, but let's look at 3PO. He was created by Anakin and served Padme for many years, and plus, he was one of the few humans, no wait, people to see Luke and Leia before they were hidden. He knew who they were.

But tragically, at the end of Episode III, he was mindwiped. And the time, it seemed like a good idea, but was it?

You see, it took a long time for Luke to finally learn the truth about Vader, and once he did, it seemed to help him a whole lot. He fought not with hatred and anger, but with compassion and determination, in fact, the truth from Vader at the end of Episode V could be considered the beginning of the crisis of the OT. So, if such knowledge of his father could really help Luke, why shouldn't he be told sooner.

Which brings me back to 3PO, if he knew, he could tell Luke, and truth could be known fron the start, how many things would Luke have done differently in Episode IV if he knew? Plus, 3PO could tell marvelous tories about Anakin. So, if 3PO hadn't had his mind wiped, he could have been even more of a hero!

But at the time of Episode III, it seemed like the reasonable thing to do because 3PO can't shut up! But, if Vader couldn't sense two Force-users on his home planet, it would be nearly impossible for 3PO to alert Vader!!!

So, my question to you would be, could 3PO have helped the Rebellion if his mind hadn't been wiped, or would the truth about Vader be too dangerous for Luke to handle before his training? It's up to you.

Please, no profanity.

May the Force be with us all! God bless!

Speak for yourself.
When will you people heed my warnings?

As for 3PO's mind wipe - we should blame Bail Organa for that.

3PO wouldn't have helped, simply because he doesn't know how. That's what makes him so awesome -- he's the only character in the whole GFFA that just wants to sit back, drink a brewski, and watch some tube.

And R2? [monotone]Why, he's the kindest, gentlest, most wonderful droid I've ever known...[/monotone]

Hey, I don't care what FX-9 says. Artoo always comes through to save the day! He's top droid in my book. Anyway, as far as Threepio goes, he probably wouldn't have been much help. He hated being in the middle of all the action (even if the good guys needed him) and blurted out everything that popped into his shiny metal head- a risky combo.

Great blog! :D

He sure can.

Probably so.

As for 3PO's mind wipe - we should blame Bail Organa for that.

Indeed.

Well you would you have wanted to tell you your father was a Sith Lord who had killed hundreds og people.A wise old sage,or the seemingly uncompassionate droid. He was too loud.I do like the idea of 3PO telling Luke good stories of Anakin.

Hmm . . . help or hinderance . . . let me see . . .

C3PO may not have considered himself a very good storyteller (he says just that to our young hero, Luke), he proves himself to be the opposite (as he recounts the Rebels' endeavors in ROTJ). However, a good storyteller 3PO may have been does not necessarily mean he would be a help to Luke. If 3PO would have been able to tell Luke of his heritage, I think that would have been more detrimental to our hero than his finding out about it when he did. As a youth/young man, Luke had some of the same rashness as his father, and probably would have gone off on some fool-hardy escapade - with or without Obi-wan's help!

It was probably standard procedure to wipe a droid's mind when they know things that they shouldn't. I think that R2's mind NOT being wiped was the anomily, not 3PO being mind-wiped.

I sometimes wonder how much Luke new about his Father? At minimum, he new that his Father was some kind of warrior/pilot that had fought in some kind of Intergalactic war. Then again, Anakin Skywalker was probably the most famous of all the Jedi. There were probably 1000s of rumors about whether or not he was still alive, but I would imagine one of the most prominent stories was that Vader had killed him.

The main reason for having C3PO's memory erased was so no one would know about the twins. You could imagine C3PO getting a tune up telling the maintence crew about how he use to belong to a certain Senator and how the maintence there at the capital was so much better. And how he helped dragged Padme's body onto a ship and saw he give birth to two healthy babies. All it would take is one spy or someone tortured and Luke and Leia would either be destroyed or captured and trained as Sith. It was good that his memory was erased.
