Hi everybody, as promised here is Part 3 of my "Are they really smart?" series! Oh, by the way, if you haven't commented on this blog
http://blogs.starwars.com/huo2459iuS/6, please do so now and help me achieve my goal, and thanks to all who did comment.
Anyway, here I am thinking about who to write about and I'll see if Mace Windu, my favorite character, is really smart. Let's start by reviewing Episode I.
The first time we see him he is sitting in his chair listening to Qui-Gon Jinn talk about young Anakin. Windu seems to be spearheading the idea of not allowing Anakin to become a Jedi. To me, he seems smart. On to Episode II.
Here, Windu has a larger role in the events and it seems to be that he and Yoda are the voice of reason in a chaotic Republic. Mace dislikes the whole, give Palpatine emergency powers deal, and starts to get suspicious about Palpatine's actions. Smart? Let's go to Geonosis. Windu sneaks up behind Dooku while it is obvious that Dooku is behind the attempted execution of two Jedi and a senator. Mace ignites his saber inches from Jango's neck and says, "This party's over." In my mind this is the perfect oppertunity to, as Obi-Wan later says to Anakin, "End this war now." Instead, Mace gets scared off of the platform by the bounty hunter who was face to face with a purple lightsaber and a couple of stupid super battle droids. Smart? Sure, he's still pretty wise, he didn't know that Dooku was a Sith, if he knew someone were Sith he would surely kill them, right?
In Episode III, Windu walks confidently into Palpatine's office. Then, Palpatine flies out of his chair igniting a lightsaber and killing three Jedi within ten seconds. Sidious' attention is now on Windu. After a ferocious saber fight Windu overpowers Sidious and brings his lightsaber down to within inches of the Sith's throat. I'm watching the movie shouting, "Kill him!" but I know that he can't kill Sidious because Sidious is in the OT. Stinkin' Anakin walks into the room then and tries to convince Mace that murder isn't the Jedi way, but does Anakin really care, after all he killed a helpless and handless Dooku. Mace is struggling to decide what to do. He goes for the killing blow and we all know the rest of the story. Mace should have killed Sidious!
In conclusion, would it have been wrong for Mace to kill Sidious? I say no. Windu, overall, was pretty smart, but not in the fact of what he should do to stop a Sith. Comments are welcome as long as there's no profanity.
May the Force be with us all! God bless! (I'm not sure if I'll do a Part 4 on Sunday, tell me if I should).
