Well, I sat around this morning trying to think of a blog to write. Yeah, yeah, I know that the best blogs are ones that magically pop into your head at 2 in the morning but... You know, I really wanted to write a blog. So, as usual, my mind wandered to the movies. Of course I started with The Phantom Menace and traveled through AOTC, ROTS, ANH, ESB, and ROTJ. Sorry to those out there who absolutely love the OT over the PT, but I like the PT better than the OT. Maybe it's because I wasn't born in the 70's or 80's, but anyway, my mind focused on the PT.
It immediately turned to the Senate scene in Episode I as the crowd chants "Vote now!" Really, this was all a scheme of Palpatine's. He used the young, kind-hearted Queen of Naboo to muscle his way past Chancellor Valorum to the head of the Republic. Through his master plan he sends Maul to Tatooine, knowing the Jedi would follow. Did he know that they'd find Anakin too? Did he count on Qui-Gon's light-heartedness, knowing that he'd pick up any slave boy who helped them?
In Episode II, Padme is away with Anakin on Naboo. Padme selects Jar-Jar to represent her while she is away. What was she thinking?! She must've been drunk on Jawa Juice. So, Palpatine, seeing an obvious oppurtunity, asks who would like to vote him emergency powers. Jar-Jar the Oblivious votes to do so. Palpatine played on Jar-Jar's stupidity to gain more power.
Finally, in Episode III, Palpatine uses Anakin's love for Padme to turn him over to the dark side. He used Anakin's heart to his own advantage.
See where I'm going with this? It's truly a sick, evil man who uses his friends' compassion and kindness to his own selfish ambition. Maybe that's where he gets the line in Episode VI, "Your faith in your friends is yours." (As in your weakness) But as we see, this is certainly not the case. Luke's faith in his father, and his buddies was enough to kill the Emperor once and for all. The embodiment of good (Luke) versus the embodiment of evil (Palpatine). Luke pulled out the kindness resting in Vader's heart, not for his own advancement, as Palpatine did, but for the good of the galaxy.
So, I think that the Jedi made a mistake in forbidding love. Sometimes, one's love, can lead another to the light, just as Luke's love of his father brough Anakin back to the side of good.
Anyway, I hope that y'all enjoyed reading this. It'd been a while since I'd written a serious blog about Star Wars.
Anyway, yesterday was my brother's birthday! He is 10 now.
May the Force be with us all! God bless!
