For some days after seeing ROTS, I have been confused. My personal life was in harmony, but my Star Wars life in disarray. I mused on what it meant to truly be a Star Wars fan. Beyond the framed and autographed 8x10 of Carrie Fisher in her ESB outfit on the Falcon. Beyond my complete collection of every SW video game for XBox. Beyond my extensive EU knowledge or near memorization of the Galactic Map.
I found myself going back to my first Star Wars experience, watching ROTJ on VHS in the 80s. From this simple moment, it all sprung. I next watched ESB and then ANH. I doubt there are many SW fans that saw the trilogy for the first time......BACKWARDS!
Yet that is the testament of Star Wars. That is the power it holds. Even more recently, when I adamantly defend TPM and believe it is a great film, the power is with me. It is the inner force, the inner power that holds sway over me. It is the fluttering of my heart when I hear the music, the thrill in my mind as Obi-Wan soars into action or Han Solo saves the day.
What does it truly mean to be a Star Wars fan?
All you have to do is look inside yourself, see who you really are, and then you will see that Star Wars lives within you, as it lives within us all, forever........
