The Expanded Universe: A Brief History Of The EU And Me
Well, with Episode III very well covered here, I've been doing pretty random entries recently. So, I've decided it's time to branch out and cover some Expanded Universe stuff. But before I get into some in-depth articles, let me begin by telling you about my EU experiences, and why I can be considered a qualified source of EU knowledge. So, without further adieu, let's go back to the beginning.....1991 exactly.

That was the year Zahn's monumental Heir To The Empire came out, and it heralded a new era of EU, a golden time. But that novel was a little above my reading level back in the day, so I started with the young adult series that began with The Glove of Darth Vader. It opened a pandora's box!

I faithfully finished out that series as they came out, and then moved on to the adult novels. Boy did I love them. Since Star Wars wasn't huge on everyone's mind, it was like me and and couple friends were a part of an elite, small dedicated fan base keeping the films alive. I was ecstatic though with the Shadows of the Empire project and the explosion of EU in the mid-90s.

I have to admit that when the NJO came out I was skeptical, especially since they killed off Chewie! Sacrilege! But then I realized the golden secret of the EU: take it or leave it, like your salad bar. It isn't canon. And so I embraced and enjoyed the NJO, and then the prequel novels. The EU grew on me, and I also looked further into gaming and the stories they produced, especially the monumental Jedi Knight.

To this day I remain an avid EU fan, and own many novels. So journey with me in the coming days, as I highlight the best the EU has to offer, and shed some light on its many mysteries.
