What is it with all the comparisons of Bush and Palpatine? From reviewers and critics all too eager to bash Bush, they look for allusions in Star Wars that simply do not exist. They compare the rise of the empire to the so-called "encroachment on freedom" that they claim the Bush administration is perpetrating. What is this nonsense?
Regardless of your politics, and as a centrist I don't really care as I find myself having no opinion of any kind on anything political these days, everyone from the left to the right must agree that the one constant is that we are all Star Wars fans. And as fans, we realize that the story of Palpatine's rise has long been established even in the early days with vague background info going back to the A New Hope novel. Episode III has been long in coming, and is not some political jab.
After all, George Lucas is anti-Hollywood, so why would he conform to them by making a film laced with political diatribe? The fact of the matter is that Star Wars is meant to be FUN. And we should all enjoy it and put nonsense like this out of our heads.
