As promised, let's get into the fray as I compare the bonuses offered by retailers when you buy the ROTS DVD. A Buyer's Guide.
After careful review, it looks like the place to go is the place I orignally suspected as the best - Wal-Mart.
Best Buy's promotional bonus is a Darth Vader lithograph, but I don't know how large it is, and it's a tad underwhelming, at least from the perspective of comparing it with what Wal-Mart gives you. Plus, only Reward Zone members can get it. Not a member? Sign up for fifteen bucks, and that's expensive considering I'll be picking up Battlefront II as well, so it's a money-money day.
Circuit City is offering no promotion at all, typical.
Target is offering a Darth Vader collectable coin, again, cool, but I'm not looking for collectables, I'm looking for bonus materials. At least anyone who buys it can get it, unlike Best Buy.
Wal-Mart is the clear winner, with a bonus disc in a regular Amaray case, not some paper slipcase. Featuring the C-3PO & R2-D2 narration of the film summaries previously seen only on TV or VHS, plus over 50 minutes of additional stuff, the DVD is entitled "The Story of Star Wars". I'm going to Wal-Mart when it opens and going into work a little late.
The only downside to Wal-Mart is that they don't cater too well to the discriminating home theatre buff, though they have gotten better. in this case, I mean that I fear they'll order too much full screen and run out of widescreen. I would hate to have to buy a FS just to get the bonus, and then have to find WS at another store. But maybe they'll catch on this time.
Either way, I take no chances, so I'll be there first thing in the morning.
