Star Wars 30th Anniversary 2007: Hype or The Goods?
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of our beloved saga, and with it comes some supposedly amazing things happening.

We know the TV series isn't one of those things.

But that doesn't mean there isn't anything to look forward to. That being said, is 2007 going to be a Star Wars bonanza or is it all just Lucasfilm hype?

We know for sure Insider will have great commemorative articles - this whole upcoming year including the issue that just shipped will form a great collector's set. Score one for the goods!

There's always plenty of great EU stuff coming, and that's great, though not really 30th anniversary related.

We know there will be plenty of collectibles coming out to commemorate the event, and that's great too.

And of course, there's Celebration IV, though many of us (including me) won't be going to due various time/money/work/travel related issues. So where does that leave us? A Celebration and merchandise aren't exactly out of this world. Does Lucasfilm have an ace up its sleeves?

Is the 30th Anniversary boxset with loads of deleted scenes and bonuses and Episode IV fixed and restored coming?

Is a video game coming?

The jury is still out, but I only hope we're in store for something amazing.

What do you guys think?

I think that Lucas should put out a 30 Anniversary Commervative Collectors DVD for each film (exactly 30 years from release: 2007, 2010, 2013). This would be a double disc with the Original Version, Special Ed Face-Lift, and the aforementioned deleted scenes, etc., etc.).

I would also like to see Jar Jar Binks and Artoo Detoo banks (plastic, not ceramic).

I would also like Lucasfilm to announce that all Star Wars products will now be manufactured right here in the United States.

I want the six-film box set, inside of a plastic Vader helmet case! (like the classic Battlestar Galactica Cylon head box set!):D

Well, I for one am going to Celebration Europe - the first time an official Lucasfilm event comes close enough to make a visit affordable.
For the rest: hey, it's a a celebration of 30 years of Star Wars - a good occassion to look at all the stuff I/you/we have gathered in the past 30 years!

I think the saga boxed set is inevitable. But I doubt it'll include OT deleted scenes -- that's too much of a jerk move to pull after two previous DVD releases.

What will be different, then? Yoda in TPM will be digital. And I'll buy it just for that. :D

Yes, I agree. I have been wanting to see these for a long time.

And of course, there's Celebration IV, though many of us (including me) won't be going to due various time/money/work/travel related issues. So where does that leave us?

I know what you mean. Actually, I already bought my ticket so that I could make hotel reservations, but given the fact that I'll be moving in a few months, I'm not sure if I'll still be able to pull this off. But if not, I think you are certainly right that there will be plenty of collectibles still available to purchase, even for those who won't be able to go.
