A rickshaw droid

Today we celebrate...
Marc Gabbana at his 43th birthday (born 1966)

Marc Gabbana was a concept artist for The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. He was born in France and immigrated to Canada 1977. On Marc Gabbana's own website you may see some of his concept arts he did for Star Wars.

Doug Chiang informed Marc Gabbana that Anakin and Padmé needed a form of transporation on Mos Espa. Marc Gabbana guessed that George Lucas wanted a rickshaw droid. He envisioned the droid and the conveyance as two separate entities that were paired together by necessity rather than by design.

"George wanted a big ball for the wheel," recalls Gabbana. "In my rough drawing, the robot was a lot bigger in relation to the cart itself. It was a lot wider too. Doug noticed it'd be too wide, so he asked me to narrow it quite a bit." (Source: Internet Archive)

RIC-920 is a wheeled rickshaw droid in the busy streets of Mos Espa.

RIC-920 is an entirely computer-generated creation.
