Hello, fellow seekers of the Force! Don't we all sometimes think, where did it all begin? Well, it began with A New Hope, of course. While the main moral of this movie is "good always wins over evil", there is a deeper philosophy, which directly relates to the time of the movies release. I was not fortunate enough to have been around in the seventies. In fact, I became a Star Wars fan just after the release of ROTS. And in two short years, if you didn't know better, you'd think I been a fan since the start. But that is not the point of this entry. As I mentioned earlier, the main idea of the first movie (really the whole saga, when you think about it) is good beats evil. Aww, what a story. But you have to remember, even though it is filled with robots and black caped asthmatics, this movie was made in the 1970's. 1977 (duh) as a matter of fact. That time was still full of hippies, rebels, and hatred for "the man". As I am prone to do in my blog, (heres lookin' at you, "from a certain point of view") I like to compare things. The rebels to the CIS, anything. And in this installment, we'll compare the hippies of the 70's, to the freedom-fighting rebels, and "the man", meaning the government, to the Empire. First the 70's. The hippies were mad at their government. They saw the government as a stone, blank faced corporation with no care for the people, and all they care about is money, greed, whatever. So they rebel against it. They don't rebel with a war, but they rebel with songs and protests. The Empire is faceless (stormtroopers), and cares about taking control of the galaxy. So the rebels, well, rebel, only with weapons and hit and run attacks instead of protests. Whatever floats your boat. I don't know if I make my point clear, I hope so. If this is too confusing (I fear it is), the basic idea is this:
Star Wars 1970's
Rebels are like hippies
Empire is like stone faced government
I don't know if anyone cares, but I feel I must make some sort of disclaimer: If you are offended by the term "hippie", I am sorry and mean no offense. That's just what I say.
As always, I am eager and ready to hear what you think of this blog via comments.
