American Revolution v.s. Galactic Civil War
H'Chu Apenkee! If you've been reading my entries, you may have noticed I mainly write two different article types: "Did you notice" and historical parallels. You may remember my article comparing the Empire to the Nazis ( http://blogs.starwars.com/j3d1mast3rsblogs/27 ) or my article accuising George Bush of being a secret Sith Apprentice ( http://blogs.starwars.com/j3d1mast3rsblogs/15 ) But today, I am comparing the American Revolution to the Galactic Civil War.

My Case (Similarities):
-Rebellion against an Empire
-Rebels used "hit and run" attacks to make up for their lack of training, numbers, and resources
-Quickly escalates from mere protests to outright war
-Tides turn dramatically (I can't remember, it was the ewoks that took Fort Ticonderoga, right?)
-Famous "independence" document (paper written by Thomas Jefferson/Holocast by Mon Mothma)
- About 33%,33%33% in terms of who wants independence, who wants to remain loyal and who just doesn't care
-New government is a Republic
-New government is almost obliterated by a comeback by the oppressors (War of 1812/Second Imperial War)
-Republic succeeds in second war
-Highly trained, uniformly dressed and marched troops v.s. "ragtag" bunch of trouble makers
-Washington sneaking across the Delaware River/Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, sneak onto Endor

Ok, I thinks that's enough for now...

By the way,
a while back I wrote an article about the fascinating world of Lightsaber building ( http://blogs.starwars.com/j3d1mast3rsblogs/11 ). Rereading it, I discovered a mistake. I said that Yoda's saber was lost in the duel w/ Palps, but I didn't know if he build a new one. The movies don't specify, but I remember reading of a fight with someone of Dagobah, and Yoda had a saber. Whether he found his old one or build a new one is anyone's guess, though I assume it is difficult to find the metal, crystals, and hardware necessary to build a lightsaber.

Especially in a swamp! I don't remember Yoda having a saber in the movies! Of course, that was pre-CGi and wouldn't have been possible to show!

This is probably the greatest similarity. Good blog!

The similarity between the American Revolution and the Galactic Civil War in SW is probably one of the reasons why the Original Trilogy is more popular than the Prequel Trilogy. This similarity is something that moviegoers were willing to easily identify with.
