A week ago last Sunday (October 15, 2006, for those of you in the deep future extracting this data to reconstruct my thrilling life for the archaeological record), I was visiting friends out of town when we stopped by their favorite comic book shop. Apparently, Joss Whedon and a few other notables have been known to shop there, but that wasn't the draw for us that day. No, what pulled us in was the one-day 50% off sale they were having.
We immediately got to work. I found a thing or two, but nothing terribly exciting, since their Dark Horse shelf didn't have any Star Wars trade paperbacks. Meanwhile, they grabbed several items they'd been eyeing for a while. We were just getting ready to go when I noticed that the reason the Dark Horse shelf didn't have any Star Wars TPBs was because
they had their own shelf to themselves. Suddenly, my very cheap trip turned into a very expensive trip.
I grabbed a bunch of stuff and started trying to narrow it down. I found that to be nearly impossible, and with my friends egging me on (I'm sure mostly because they were almost ready to leave as I was just getting started), I just bought the whole stack I had grabbed.
My final purchases:
Star Wars: A Long Time Ago... Volume 2: Dark Encounters - $29.95
Star Wars: A Long Time Ago... Volume 3: Resurrection of Evil - $29.95
Star Wars: A Long Time Ago... Volume 4: Screams in the Void - $29.95
Star Wars: A Long Time Ago... Volume 7: Far, Far Away - $29.95
Classic Star Wars Volume 1: In Deadly Pursuit - $16.95
Classic Star Wars Volume 2: The Rebel Storm - $16.95
Classic Star Wars Volume 3: Excape to Hoth - $16.95
Classic Star Wars Volume 4: The Early Adventures - $19.95
Jabba the Hutt - The Art of the Deal - $9.95
Shadows of the Empire - Evolution - $14.95
Decade - A Dark Horse Short Story Collection - $12.95
Prehistoric Times #79 - $6.95
Total: $235.40
-50% -$117.70
Tax: $9.71
Final Total:
$127.41
A very expensive day . . . I normally don't spend $127 at one sitting anywhere. But also a very cheap day . . . I normally don't *save* $117, either.
Now I just have to find the missing Marvel volumes they didn't have. Preferably at similar prices to what I found these first four for.
Part of me thinks I should've grabbed the few things I didn't grab in that initial pass, as well. I mean, just because I've *read*
Han Solo at Stars' End doesn't mean I know what the *comic* is like, right?
