What's the matter? Have we hit a dryspell? Perhaps we're on the verge of something great? I dunno.
LucasArts was, however, hitting a perfect game in the 2004-05 timeframe.
Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed
A very needed breath of fresh air to a growingly innate game. With all the combat upgrades and bugs coming out of your ears, people were quickly growing tired of the whole SWG scheme, until JTL. Taking to the stars helped players get away from the ground-based problems and into a more simpler environment. You, the other guy, and your trigger finger.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
A very deserving sequel to the first game, regardless of the anticlimatic cliffhanger ending (is that an oxymoron?). The setting was overwhelming and the characters were great. The game has never been played the same way twice for me. The combat upgrades are more welcome in this game than in SWG, unfortunately.
Star Wars: Battlefront
Hello?! If you don't have a copy of this game yet, you're plain stupid. It's LucasArts "masterpiece" game since they first started. No wonder it's getting a sequel a year later. The most addicting and yet curiously simple game I've played yet. And the best level is, of course, the Battle of Hoth.
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Star Wars + Halo + Squad tactics = duh.
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
It's about time they did a good movie tie-in game. The Phantom Menace was a disappointment, but this game is just great in the Jedi arts. Dueling has become one of the highlights of our get-togethers at the youth group.
But what about the future?
With Battlefront II and Empire At War being the only SW games on the horizion, have we run out of original ideas? Even if new games are announced, what're the odds you'll see KOTOR 3 or another Jedi Knight game? LEGO Star Wars is gearing up for a sequel placed in the classic era. So all the games coming out from now seem to be saga recap games, and most will have (if not feature) the Battle of Hoth, as I have noticed. Look at the Empire At War site from LucasArts... yep, you guessed it. Battle of Hoth in all its glory.
I mean, I like the Battle of Hoth, but how many times do we have to "re-experience" it?
Note: The future of Star Wars Galaxies looks bleak even with Rage of the Wookiees being released. If they don't get their technical support act together, there go the customers.
