No no no, it's this simple.

Palpatine=Hitler! (both very good public speakers, though Hitler didn't have force lightning)
Empire=Axis Powers (nazi) (GL said it himself in ESB of their uniforms)

Palpatine is a senator who gets into power because of political strife, and through manipulation of the public opinion gets to be Chancelor (like Hitler) then apoints himself Emperor (ie Furher [sp?]) and goes on a genocidal march of killing those he hates, like the jedi, and eventual wants domination over all in his way. The Empire is made up of 99% humans (all british, ironically) agaisnt the Rebels (ie. Allies) who are all from different places teaming up to beat them.

Julius Ceasar and Augustus may have been cruell on there ennemies, but they basicly wanted to do good for their people. The Sith only want power for themselves, not to do good for the people. To compare with Hitler and de Nazi's is much more adequate (just my opinion).

Maybe you should consider application to Agustus successor Tiberius. He was considered a tyrant. Not only was he very suspiscious he manuevered the Praetorian Gaurd so that it controlled the senators by intimidation. He even enforced the injured majesty law that basically said anyone who says anything slightly bad against the emperor should be killed. Interestingly he also at pretended he didn't want the position and claimed he would hand it back to the senate, which never happened...Emperor Palpatine = Emperor Tiberius, Praetorian Gaurd = Imperial Royal Gaurd...
