The Start of it All
To start off my Blog here at StarWars.com, I'd like to begin with an article about a fundamental notion for Star Wars fans: "Why do I like Star Wars so much?" So here's my history of where it all began for me personally.

I'm 17 years old, as of this moment. Ever since I first saw the movies, I always like Star Wars. We had the whole OT on VHS, and that's what we'd always watch when we watched Star Wars. And I always liked it. But only as much as anyone does.

One pleasant day, I decided to watch the entire Star Wars trilogy. I did, and enjoyed every minute of it. When I was finished, one thing went through my mind: "Hey, I think I'll watch it again..." And I did.

"Yoda Stories" was a game made as a clone to "Indiana Jones and his Desktop Adventures." Most people haven't played or even heard of either, especially the latter. They were unique, fun, great games and I've never seen anything like them since. "Yoda Stories" was the Star Wars version, and it had better control, more maps, more features, more possibilities, and more significance in my life than anyone would imagine.

You know that big metal thing with the two black rectangles and blue cross on the wall in the vestibule entrance to the Mose Eisely Cantina? Probably not, unless you know what I'm about to say next. That thing is a Droid Detector. It flashes and makes a sound, and alerts Wuher the bartender that droids are entering the bar and prompts his command to Luke to leave them outside. I never would have realized. In Yoda Stories however, one of the items that you trade with people was a Droid Detector, and the icon was that distinctive big metal thing.

That one day I lay in bed watching all three Star Wars movies, twice, I noticed that Droid Detector. I saw it and said "Hey, that's a Droid Detector! I know that from Yoda Stories!" And I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Coolest. Thing. Ever.

It was then that I realized, I don't just like Star Wars. I REALLY like Star Wars, and would be proud to be called a nerd for having an expansive knowledge of the Star Wars universe. One day, and one awesome game with some detailed touches, set off the spark.

That's my story. I hope it wasn't boring, and I promise that future articles won't be as self indulgent. I hope that it at least made you think back, and remember where it all began for you, and I encourage you to share your own stories.

UPDATE: For those interested, I found a convenient site with a kinda dark picture of exactly the Droid Detector I was talking about:

Credits to Echo Station, a website I never knew about until I did a google search for Droid Detector. That site also has a great amount of other detail that I never noticed.
