I don't just love KOTOR. I LURVE it. For the people who don't just not love KOTOR, but also don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the videogame RPG "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," available on PC and XBox, developed by Bioware, critically acclaimed, and FRICKIN AWESOME. It takes place 4,000 years before the movies, back when the Sith numbered in the thousands, and their empire was threatening to crush the Republic, which was weakened after a devastating yet victorious war against the Mandalorians.
But you non-gamers, and non-RPGers, it is for you I have started this new initiative. You see, KOTOR isn't just a videogame that's fun to play. It has a well crafted and engaging story, with great characters, numerous side plots and stories to learn, difficult choices, and intriguing questions that stimulate the thoughtful part of the mind in ways that gameplay alone can't.
There's a lot of great content that I think that plenty of bloggers here would appreciate, even if they don't want to play the game, so I'm going to try and convey that content to those people, and I hope that other KOTOR lovers here will do the same.
As part of this initiative, I want to personally introduce people to KOTOR, through the classic art of YouTube video. I've been recording some videos of good parts, and will continue to do so and upload them, but here's the stater sample:
The Story of HK-47
Imagine the exact opposite of C-3PO. He's an assassination/protocol droid. He's got a sharp wit, a very cynical attitude, a distaste for "meatbags" as he calls them, and takes great joy in violence. He truly is one of the most beloved characters of the KOTOR saga, for his ever-upbeat murderous humor.
Enjoy the
first and
second parts of the story of his previous owners before being acquired by the main character of the game.
More coming soon!
The Adventures of Canderous Ordo
Canderous Ordo, tough Mandalorian warrior. He's a fighter and a killer to his very core, and he was truly a great Mandalorian.
Sit back, hear some war stories, and learn a bit about what it means to be a Mandalorian.
One, Two, Three. (The third one is a subtle Yuuzhan Vong reference)
More Coming Soon!
The History of the Sandpeople
Ah, the fierce Tusken Raiders. Well, in KOTOR you have the opportunity to get to know them pretty well, if you make the effort. Learn a bit about them, and their past, and discover the shocking theory that maybe, just maybe, they are in fact the origin of the human race in the Star Wars galaxy.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
There's more. There's so much more, but there's a taste of the stuff that I'm hoping that every Star Wars fan can experience if they want to, whether they play games or not.
