It's been a while since my last blog, hasn't it. Well, you know how busy it gets for us students in the summer months.


You know those moments where you hear something in real life and you immediately think of something from a movie (in this case, Star Wars)? I want to talk about that. I'm inclined to call them connotations, even though associations is a much better word. But whatever you call them, they're interesting little moments that always make me smile.

So what are your phrases that bring Star Wars to mind, whether you like it or not? Here are some of mine.

Concentraaaaate!! I can't tell myself to concentrate without immediately doing the opposite and thinking about the scene in ESB where Yoda gets flung from his perch atop Luke's foot. Ironic, I know, that the word "concentrate" makes my mind wander, but blame Frank Oz.

Ah...Victory. Nute Gunray landing on Naboo. Every time I hear the word "victory" alone. Ahh...Victory.

And of course another Nute-ism that comes up whenver anything goes wrong. This isn't how it's supposed to be! And the ineivitable, yet much more irrelevant Jango! Shoot her, or something!

I think we took a wrong (took a wrong) turn (turn turn). I'm lost, someone says "I think we took a wrong turn" and bam. There I am watching Luke and Leia almost fall into a giant pit on the Death Star. This one has been stuck in my head for a long time. They actually changed the echoes for the special edition, much to the confusion of my auditory memory, but I still remember the original echoey phrase.

Peee-yoosa I admit it. Smelly things on occasion trigger a Gungan response. What can I say? Some things just remind me of Eopie poo.

We're almost there? I'm almost done? He's almost at the thermal exhaust port? Whatever it is, if I'm almost there, then I'm Allmoost theeerrre......allmooost theeerrrre....

The trench run again creeps into my mind on message boards. Thanks to a hilarious post from long ago on the StarWars.com message boards, I now equate the (common enough) message board phrase "Stay on topic" with Stay on target. We're too close. Stay on target. I can't maneuver! Stay on target. Loosen up! KERPLAUHGHA!


Bonus Associations! These aren't related to Star Wars, but while I'm talking about them, I'll share two more associations I have with other movies.

SHUFFER THE CONSHEQUENSHESH. As spoken by a big wavy Posiedon in the TV mini-series version of Homer's "The Odyssey." And I do sincerely hope that at least one person knows what the heck I'm talking about, or else I'll feel silly.

And last but not least, Mr. Sean Connery has stolen the phrase "self reliance"-- excuse me, Shelf reliansh ever since the conversation on the zeppelin in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
