 | Mission Impossible III Review |
The third installment of the Mission Impossible series is packed with nonstop action and thrilling excitement.
Tom Cruise returns as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt, who currently is a trainer for young , upcoming IMF Agents and is engaged to his girlfriend Julie, played by Michelle Monaghan. After one of IMF's recruits Lindsay ,played by Keri Russell, is captured, Ethan becomes an active agent again with his IMF partners.
Ethan learns the man who had Lindsay kidnapped is Owen Davian, a black market arms dealer, played brilliantly by Oscar Winner Phillip Seymour-Hoffman. Ethan gathers his team and makes kidnapping Davian their top priority.
The mission is not as easy as it sounds. Davian has more backup than Ethan can imagine which leads to a fantastic war like battle on a bridge.
After Davian escapes, he makes punishing Ethan Hunt his top priority, first by kidnapping Julie. In exchange for Julie, Ethan must bring Davian a biological weapon called The Rabbits Foot that Davian has been after.
Ethan and his team must travel to China in order to obtain the heavily guarded object.
Ethan learns he cannot trust anyone in IMF after his boss, played by Laurence Fishburne, has been accused of dealing with Davian. Ethan must go it alone to rescue Julie and stop Davian.
The story has so many twists and turns that you won't know who to trust and right from the opening of the film the story has you hooked.
Unlike the previous two, the plotline wasn't overly confusing as it was in the first installment and the action wasn't too over the top as it was in the second.
Director JJ Abrams brings together believable storytelling with exciting action. Phillip Seymour-Hoffman plays one of, if not, the most devious, hated villains in film history and dispite what you think of Tom Cruise, he delivers a great performance in one of his best films.
M:I:III is rated PG-13 for violence, language, graphic images of death, and sexual situations.
My rating: 3 1/2 out of 4 Lightsabers.
