Lightsaber color
This blog is basicly a reply to a different blog written a few hours ago which can be found here.

The original reply I was going to make contained more than the 750 character limit....so below is the original reply I was going to make to the blog.

The question reguarding saber colors had hit me after seeing AOTC when returning home from the theatre I had also thought about why many masters and apprantices had shared the same saber color, and some had not. So when I had arrived home that night I made a google search on the saber colors of a jedi. I then had stumbled across a site that explained it all for me.

Lightsaber colors reflect the types of Jedi, not their rank. Green represents the Jedi Consular, who has a greater affinity with the force and are devoted more to meditation than to combat. Blue represents the Jedi Guardians, who specialize in the use of the lightsaber and useful Force fighting techniques. The Yellow represent a Jedi Sentinel, none of whom appear in the movies. They specialize in an oft-neglected role of the Jedi; administering justice. They use the force to determine when someone
is lying or telling the truth, and are best at settling conflicts. Luke Skywalker had a blue lightsaber, but only because it belonged to his father Anakin, who was a Guardian. By the time Luke constructed his own lightsaber, he had realized he was a Consular.

Yes I believe this system was first advocated in the Knights of the Old Republic game. Chances are it had faded by the era of the Prequels and certainly Luke would have no idea of the system.

And, as mentioned in the other blog. Luke's saber was originally going to be blue. In a way this would have made more sense, since then it would be nearly an exact replica of Obi-Wan's saber. Though one could argue now that Luke choose it based on Obi-Wan's hilt and Yoda's blade (assuming Yoda had built a new lightsaber in those 18 years and shown it to Luke, otherwise we could say it was simply based on Yoda's skin color :D ), representing both of his masters. Blasted Star Wars chronology. Always in motion :)

i personaly dont think that the sabers have any meaning behind them. Of course they did in the RPG elements in KOTOR but after that theres rele no in universe why certin colors are chosen. But i agree that this tradition probly faded out over the thousands of years. I wouldnt go lookin on sites for starwars info unless its the official site because theres no way of tellin if its truth or not.

It could have, considering KOTOR is in the sith era which is before the prequels.

And don't forget that everything official (movies, books, games . . . well, maybe not movies, since that's GL himself!) goes through LucasArts for the official okay. It's actually kind of fun how they all feed off of and connect to each other.
I enjoyed your blog. I learned something new!

The video game rankings mean nothing at all... especially not the saber colors. For one, that only applies in KOTOR 1, in KOTOR 2 you've got Jedi Council members with purple sabers... what rank is that? Not to mention, no matter if you choose Consular, Sentinel or Guardian in KOTOR 2 your saber color depends on what color crystal you find first. I'm playing my second time through, the first crystal I've obtained is silver.

How that's even possible I don't know, but there's no real color code except that within the realm of the films and the Clone Wars cartoon naturally formed crystals on Ilum seem to only range between green blue and purple. The standard, obviously, is blue and green. Some sort of Jedi regulation apparently. Though we could delve into mystical significance of these colors... that might be fun.

okay most of the saber colours meanings are wrong
a green lightsaber does yes mean they are more one with the force than others.
a blue lightsaber means they are skilled in combat and force fighting
a red lightsaber means that they are consumed by fear, anger, hate and death
a yellow lightsaber meant that they were guardians cause they settled conflicts with many planets and spread peace and justice far and wide
a purple lightsaber meant that they were skilled in both combat and the force and they were highly respected by all other jedi or siths
